When my N900 booted after updating I got a screen which told me about the MyNokia. There was a button to read EULA which I did. It said there IMEI, Phone number and something else will be send to Nokia.

I don't know why I choose to continue but I think I had a choice not to accept which in return would have left me alone (I would hope).

using the US firmware, I didn't see that. "My Nokia" is in Settings, but there is no possibility to subscribe, only to unsubscribe.

On my N95, "My Nokia" also existed, but when I selected it, it told me this service is not available in my country. Lucky me?

Maybe somebody at Nokia actually saw us complaining before the PR1.2 arrived that it doesn't imform us enough, so it made the My Nokia -service activate automatically. And I too saw that EULA at startup, but that was the third time I booted my PR1.2, not the first.

I have had My Nokia enabled for a while but to be brutally honest, they have not sent me one single useful text message at all, categorically, ever. Anyone worth their salt will go away and do the research on their phone to find out how to work it. To then be told "You can shortcut to your messages by touching the message body when you have a notification" is frankly insulting.

PS - It's been enabled since I had my N95-2, the upgrade to N900 didn't kill the subscription.

Unsubscribe if I were you. Useless IMHO.

Is there any way to remove the "My Nokia" icon from Settings?

MyNokia its not a new thing ive been using it for some time on n95.
this service sends usefull information about your device every couple days. some of the things ive already known and some were new to me.
it can text you with information about all sorts of shortcuts, news, general phone usage.
it doeasnt cost you a penny so dont complaint about it after first news just because you have already know that

Now they can track you down, if you accept the terms and setup the thing, by remotely switching on your GPS and Wifi and locating your position. Now you will be monitored and once they have a lock on your device, they will download remotely and log all of your sms, im messages and contacts. Do not be afraid, you can avoid it. Simply turn your phone off.

Save yourself while you still can!

MyNokia is of no use to you. Its just spam messages that might end up showing on your phone bill as texts received from abroad.

IIRC, there was no choice. there was a button that made me proceed to the next step and one that opened the terms of service.

what you're saying is that if i scrolled down to the bottom of the terms of service, there was a button saying 'don't accept', and pressing this button would then change the whole logic of the dialogue (like make it disappear altogether or have it offer an 'don't subscribe' option)..?

i could have missed something during this update, but i don't recall such an option. even if if it was there... it was obviously so hidden nobody noticed. which again would make it dubious.
