yes more of this please

in the 1950's (from reading this somewhere years ago, so please forgive me if its hogwash) america helped china and supplied them fridge/washing machine designs, china responded by flooding america with cheap copies.

Today china makes the *best* equipment, certainly in the IT world (used to be "cheap" copies), all yout HP servers are made in china in the newest factories

Having visited china myself on a business trip, its a bit like the former USSR, at a strip club my camera was confiscated when i was taking pictures, ( i found out a local council official was stitting in front of me, thats why they took my camera), some resturants seated 5,000 people !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What I want to see is china pissing all over the USA's patents, as patents have now destroyed/crippled innovation in the IT Industry, at the *very* least in the fast moving IT world, a max of 5 years lifespan.

There is a website (google it) where you can literally read the HUNDREDS of approved Microsoft patents every MONTH, for ******** like suing a UK firm DATEL (I bought their excellent commodore c64 cartridge with disassembler http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datel_Action_Replay years ago) for a "patent" which covers "portion of a gaming input device having an illuminated region" cos they made their own controller.

sadly innovation really has taken a back seat in the IT industry, sure there will always be advances, but not at the pace and ingeuinity there would be with a *sensibly* regulated patent office

now the next *big* row will be who buys Novell, and all its patents (and this could cause some *serious* ripples in FOSS), Microsoft paid novell around 500+ million settlement in 1994 (or there abouts) as microsoft infrigned novell patents, microsoft bought the commodore amiga patents (fking best machin in the last 2 decades...but thats another story) , back in mid 90s if i remember rightly from escom/gateway or whoever owned them

sadly the software market is now a minefiled and only the compaines with the biggest lawyers win

thats why china will be the new super power and *then* stupid US patents will mean f**k all

patents kill innovation.............................

garyc2010: I agree with many of your sentiments. I read an interesting article a few minutes ago about Tetris. Tetris clones are being taken off Android phones because of a complaint by the originator of Tetris. But, says one Tetris clone guy, the copyright to Tetris expired some time ago. And Tetris clones that don't copy the exact graphics of Tetris or its name should be all right. But even the ones that apparently violate zero copyrights are being banned.

This isn't fair, but in our world, if you can't afford to spend lots of money on lawyers, in many situations you don't have rights.

This is a naive statement. As originally designed, patents encourage innovation because the whole idea is for inventors to publish their developments for all to see. It is the general corruption of the patent system that stifles innovation.

Hey im heading to Mission Viejo in October, hoping to get an in ternal flight up to san fran (I have relations in mission viejo, im from the UK btw)

Yeah I agree with your sentiments " if you can't afford to spend lots of money on lawyers, in many situations you don't have rights"

sad but true

I just wonder where all this madness will end...........WIMP was created by neither Microsoft nor Apple.

PS flying into LAX 1st October, was going to drive to Las Vegas (Chrysler 300c), but im not sure about driving thu a desert for 2 days, and then 2 days back, some people recommended doing the coast route seeing Longbeach (Queen Mary) and howard Huges House (Would love to see that tbh being the nerd i am ) ie drive mission viejo up the coast to San Fran (golden Gate, alcaratraz, and doing the steve mcqueen in San Fran in my chrysler)

whats you opinion , since you live there

Hm, a small feed-back from my side...

I didn't find the device here, but I found the following thing: No, it does _not_ run an Atom so forget about a really fast Tablet. That is for this device a dream. I have here two sources which state it not running an Atom as mentioned by the press.

Looks similiar right? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSUXZPuAUzw
And here are the specs: http://www.ekengroup.com/en/product/show.asp?id=899

It sure looked nice, but now that Computex is in Taipei from 1.6 to 5.6 I am sure we will see really many new devices which will blow the iPad to pieces.

I'd rather get a good one than one which has not what I need.

Would have been nice, but even my N900 is way stronger than the "iPed" and has a keyboard ^^.

I will wait therefore and won't buy it. Sorry, can't report about that device therefore.

Still it showed my how cool tablets can be and how they could be utilized.

A good source for tablet infos can be www.jkkmobile.com if you wanna have a few news-updates on them

Cheers,

mikki-kun

Vegas is not a 2-day drive from Los Angeles. It's only like 4 hours.

I think "Linux on desktop" does not matter much anymore... it's "Linux on mobile" that matters! Wait, what... android is not linux? Oh nvm then!
