Nokia is not officially interested to bring MeeGo to N900 and support for Maemo will diminsh.
Maybe Google would get interested to support N900 with Android and Google-applications.
There's a project, NITDroid (search), that does this. It's not fully functional, and you won't get the official Google Apps for it.

Frankly speaking... You maybe lost? This is maemo website nexus one runs on android what made you think someone would answer your question here? If ever they are past n900 and present nexus one users I think they aren't here anymore for the reason that they won't get any support or related discussions here about their phone. My best bet is go to an android forum there you would get greater chance to encounter someone who could answer your question.

For me pros are apps, responsibility and integrated compass

Cons
- lack of landscape mode :-) (only some applications do support landscape mode), I got used to the landscape mode of N900
- lack of true multitasking
- lack HW keyboard
- locked device (no shell - sure you can jailbreak it and have one)

At least if you are a linux user - don't swap n900 for android phone, you will be disappointed.
Also the screens in comparison can be win or fail depending on what you seek I'll pass on AMOLED if I can.

I was thinkink about buying N1, but for me the hardware is inferior. (personal subjective opinion)
But I'm waiting for Motorola Milestone XT720 and I'm going to get it once out - supposedly the end of June.
