You can live without it, but you won't get any future firmware update notifications (there'll probably be none from Nokia, but there's work on a community firmware update ongoing). The package itself doesn't really do anything, but it's the only one of the firmware packages which shows up in App Manager, and it uses package dependencies to pull in all the other packages that make up the new firmware.

What would happen is you delete Windows folder form your computer, pretty much the same - u wouldn't have OS on it. maemo contains all system files + UI + basic applications

Are you sure? it is OS itself, isn't it?

Personally I'm sure it isn't OS itself because I'm living without it since days without any problem!!

(QUOTE Rob1n) It uses package dependencies to pull in all the other packages that make up the new firmware. (/QUOTE)
Please Rob1n, can you explain this your last sentence? I didn't understand it
Thank you

mp-fremantle-generic-pr is a metapackage that is responsible for SSU updates. Deleting it will prevent notification about any future Nokia updates, but won't do anything else.

You can reinstall with apt-get.
Code:
apt-get install mp-fremantle-generic-pr
That's it.

The mp-fremantle-pr package depends on specific versions of all the packages which make up the firmware (busybox, calendar, camera-ui, hildon-desktop, etc). That means that installing it will force installation of all these other packages (and replacing any of these with another version will force removal of the mp-fremantle-pr package).

I reinstalled mp-fremantle to return system info after flashing Lehto's kernels:
Code:
root
apt-get update
apt-get install --reinstall mp-fremantle-pr-xxx
Where xx is your variant, or you can use generic
