@mohannad: you can update a jailbroken phone with Apple's vanilla OS, but the update mechanism do not take into account all the modification and binary crufts that may be left over by jailbroken mods.

ysss, this is certainly possible from a technical point of view and also one of the first things I thought about, as it is a pretty obvious probability.

Nevertheless it is not mentioned in the BGR and Engadget posts until now (despite being obvious) and there *seem* relatively many people experiencing issues (engadget: "To say our tip box has been inundated with reports of iOS 4 issues today would be something of an understatement.").

As I said, of course for us it can only be considering sources and taking it with a pinch of salt. From this, ATM my point stays.

What, if not?

Then, maybe, Apple should do something about their OS, so people wouldn't have to jailbreak?

Sarcasm aside, I think every time any company releases major updates, someone has a problem with them. Most of the time, majority doesn't. So there's really nothing to see here, except more proof that technology is still fallible.

Edit: When looking at absolute numbers, remember that there's also a lot of those devices out there.

I saw one "lost contacts" complaint on my Facebook feed so far. My thought for that is, "Eek, that stinks."

The grass is definitely greener in terms of providing upgrades to older devices. Even if it is buggy, I wld definitely bet apple would 'support' and correct it

Apple always uses the phrase "it just works" when in truth nothing ever just works. In fact Apple Software is some of the buggiest crappiest software I have ever used. Itunes has slowed my computer down several and when trying to perform basic tasks in Itunes is painfully slow. Apple hardware is pretty good except for crappy wireless signals whenever I use my brother's iPod Touch the wifi works like crap and always disconnects on me in the middle of tasks such as web browsing and Youtube I always constantly have to go back into the settings and reconnect to wireless e ven after I just connected to it. The iPhone has a crazy amount if dropped calls thanks to terrible cellular radio combined with At&t which isn't capable of handlng the iPhone you have very terrible service. Mac OSX Snow Leopard is considered crappy and some even call it the Windows Vista of Macintosh there are many youtube and forum posts complaining about bugs, issues, Security Problems and third party software that doesn't work. Those are just few examples of Apple software and hardware the doesn't just work. Never believe the Apple cult when they tell you something just works.
