The N900 is mainly a geek device and geeks are not the majority.
Any proof of the high return rates? I hear things like that on these forums but no numbers to back it up. I think Nokia always intended the N900 to be a geek/early adopter phone, thus limited advertising.

We knew last year about this time that the product after the N900 was going to have a capacitive screen and be a mainstream devices, so it should come to no surprise that the N900 wasn't put on a pedestal by Nokia.

i am retty sure i dfid a n900 to n900 video call after pr 1.2 with skype and it worked fine. i wasnt aware that there was a flaw or bug with it. other then the fact you cant move around a whole lot and need good day light to get a respectable video feed, i dont see any issues with it

Lucky you then.

I´ve tried N900 to N900 (I´ve got 3 I can play with) both over wifi and 3g. I´ve also tried 2 of those 3 to PC´s.

Here are what the results were roughly:
- Video option disappears during the skype call on both N900´s, after it manages to start on 1 of the 2 phones.
- Video recording freezes on the N900 (both when calling another n900 and a desktop client)
- Video doesn´t show up from the desktop skype client
- Video works for a 5 minute call, only after telling the device to start/stop a video transmission several times. (until that froze, didn´t show up or alike)
- 2 x Video option is not shown on the N900, nor on the desktop software

Skype desktop software is currently newest edition 4.2 or 4.3 or whatever it was.

Meego is just another flavour of linux that runs in arm processors.
In fact there is a release out than can be installed on the n900...

The problem as i see it is that while there were millions of symbian devices, the n900 market share is quite small and the software vendors that i have contacted abou apps have no immediate plans to release n900 apps, this decision should clarify nokias position for all those vendors, and hopefully they will make a comercial decision sooner or later about release meego apps. Remember meego does not comprises of just nokia but also of many other companies.
