got it???
you're wrong.. this has to do with the simlock
so you can use it with different simcards (it's a bug atm)

Regarding that post that was deleted, sharing your IMEI is highly disadvisable, dishonest people may use your IMEI in their (potentially stolen) devices, and you might one day find your IMEI has been added to the international blacklist, making your device useless for cellphone usage, you might even get in trouble with law enforcement entities

If you clock that button it will prompt you with a keypad to enter a numeric code that only God himself knows. Once entered your phone will be able to use every provider you'd like. But for that to be usefull your phone has to be sim-locked to a provider from the beginning. theres no use unlocking something that isnt locked..

Why are people not exploring their phones????
I found this the day I got my N900... PR1.1 and before probably.
I don't know it's use, but what's the point of knowing without the code?

It's most likely a carrier supplied code. Some phones can be carrier unlocked by typing a code into the keypad with a few #'s and *'s to unlock. This is probably similar, from the days when Nokia thought the N900 would be a good, high selling phone.... Oh, how wrong they were!
