my n800 and new 3g phone will be arriving sometime this week! im excited and its tax refund money well spent(or at least i hope so!)

anyways, since i plan on being connected most of the time at work, can the n800 + my 3g phone really keep me online 8 hrs a day? does the internet connection timeout if there is no activity?

no you will most likely have about 3 - 3.5 hours of active online surfing.

I have some questions on a new N800 I just purchased.

what size memory card can you use in it? the docs say 2gb but I have read that you could use 4 gb or even 8 gb if you upgrade the kernel and format the cards using FAT 32 on a PC. is this true? if so, how do I go about doing this?

2GB is the officially supported maximum size. Several non-SDHC 4GB cards work (I have two of them). If you want to use SDHC cards, you'll need to flash your device with a kernel patched for SDHC.

Formatting cards is only very rarely necessary: most cards come FAT formatted. However, it is always the safest bet to format them on the pc, as the N800 File Manager really doesn't deserve any of the two words that describe it.

I see you haven't got a response to your post while the thread has been co-opted. Sorry.

The percentage is displayed as green bars on the battery toolbar icon. However, note that the icon is not refreshed as consistently as it should be-- there are times for me that it's registered 50% and then within minutes I'm told the battery is near dead and the icon jumps to 1 red bar-- skipping over the 25% green bar.

I encounter the same web page text selection problem you do. I have no answer, sorry.

To select text: Double-tap and hold on the second tap; then drag to select. This is a fine art and mastering it entitles one to emboss "N800 Wizzard" (yes, with the 2 'z's -- see Terry Pratchett and Rincewind for explanation) with rhinestones on the back of one's tablet.

The main thing for me is that the double tap has to be really fast. I would like to reconfigure it so I could tap a bit slower. Otherwise, anyone with the reflexes of a world-champion mumblety-peg player should have no problem.
