You have the same board from day one and your problem is easy put right as long as you flash BOTH images one after the other without a reboot.

Mine is the same as all of yours, and mine is the smooth keyboard, so i'm guessing there really is a difference. I'll have to check with someone who has the newer version though, so far it seems everyone has the smooth keyboard.....
Yep both the old one and the new had/have smooth keys.

This what it looks like for me:

N900 Board: Noxia RX-51 board
N900 Board Ver: 2101
Processor Information: ARMv7 Processor rev 3(v7l)

Yes, the processor information is "v7l" and not "v71". At least that character looks more like an "l" than a "1".

Smooth keys or the rough texture feel?
I really cannot tell. Since this is the only N900 I have ever seen in real life, I dunno which it is.

I bought it in February as used, AFAIK it was bought as new back in December.

Please check these 3 things for me:

N900 Board
N900 Board Ver
Processor Information

When you launch Health Check, there should be 4 tabs. Those 3 above are under the "System" tab, and is located at the very bottom.

Also, please indicate whether your keyboard has the smooth keys or the rough texture feel to it.

The reason is because I have an older version of N900, and have been having problems with it lately. I posted this be4 but just a quick summary, I bought my first N900 in April, sold it after using it for 2 months, and then bought another N900 (2nd one) coz i missed it. But this time, I've got what appears to be an older version. Newer version have the rough-texture keyboards, while the older ones have the smoother keyboard.

I can definitely tell there's a difference between the 2, and now i've been having a few minor issues with my current one, whereas i didn't have any with my first N900.

Thanks.
Yes you are correct i have Board Ver 2204 Assembled date on Box is Jun/2010 keyboard feel rough texture.
I use to have Old N900 which i brought in gray market which have soft keyboard. Few days back i exchanged it with Indian Version.

Well, smooth texture is as plain as that. It just feels smooth overall, just like a normal keypad or any other phone. The rough texture feels exactly like a rough texture, it has a kinda dusty feel to it.

Actually, a better way of describing is this, if it feels like a standard keyboard on a PC, then it's smooth. Otherwise, if it feels like a Razor or Logitech gaming mouse with the rough texture surface on them, then it's the rough texture one.

Great, now i'm pretty much confirmed!

Ok thanks to everyone for all your replies, now i know there really is a difference to the 2 types of N900. It seems the board version really has something to do with most of the problems that some people have, apparently theirs were the old version and had a few problems here and there.......as i do now with my current N900 with the smooth keyboard, whereas when i still had my N900 with the rough keyboard, it worked like a charm. Right now, i'm experiencing all sorts of problems, like a faster battery drain, whereas this never happened to my previous N900, even though i use the same setup and installed the same list of apps.

I think we can investigate this further and find out what the real differences between the boards are, and whether this really affects the phone itself overall.....
