If this is all you wanted, what are you waiting for yet?

The problem is that as the time passes you realize you cannot live without some other feature. And yet another feature. And...

Didnt get the whole crooked back/resistive screen connection, but I do agree that opinions are like a**holes. Everyone's got them, and some contain more sh*t than others

@gmuslera
Whiners will post til the end of time, but happy campers don't seem to post about their satisfaction everyday. So the information available is not balanced to the actual truth, only to a one sided version of it.

People changing my perception with FUD-tactics could maybe be described as brainwashing/deception/misguidance/misinformed or whatever and I am sure the reason it works is due to some old caveman instinct.

Then what are the options that you guys propose?

It seems like any counter-thought is considered FUD, typically FUD was fought back with sheer insightful information; however that's not the case right now. I see no real new information that would push the naysayers to the side - that needs to happen.

So what do you propose as the option? Complaining about complainers is just as wasteful as the people complaining. I see nothing in this thread other than a call to rally behind a recently favorited item. Not a solution, just a rally cry.

All the nays from the naysayers have been addressed and rebutted. The thing is that one gets tired of repeating the same thing over and over. There were just too many trolls on this forum bring up the same non-sense over and over and over.

Sure, there are some things that the N900 doesn't do as well as other phones. But, there are so many things that the N900 does better, way better. The naysayers don't like to acknowledge that. I have said many times that the N900 is not what I recommend to everyone. My wife, for example, would be lost trying to use the N900. But that doesn't mean that the N900 is a piece of garbage. The N900 is the most powerful mobile device on the market, even now, 8 months after its release. There is just nothing out there that I would trade it for.

Naysayers are usually not balanced in their assessment of the N900. And as the OP said, that gives a false impression of what the N900 is really like. And the unfortunate thing is that people who would really love the N900 are dissuaded from getting it because of that distorted picture.

We'll have to slightly disagree here. A lot has been covered, but the FUD being met with equal fanaticism isn't what I call "addressing" the issues. Not fully.

100% agree here.

Are people honestly that easily swayed? I personally think not. But that's basing that on my own ability to form my own opinions.

If people are that easily fooled, led, changed or impressed upon, the bigger problem isn't the FUD, it's the lack of positive reinforcement from Nokia and leaving that all up to this loosely knit group.

But that's my opinion. Brands should stand on their own merits.

I agree very much with the spirit of the OP but also defer to gerbick's comments above;

What do we propose as action to balance out the negative views expressed on TMO?

We should also consider our target market for our 'action' (whatever that may be).

Whose minds are we trying to win over?

Our own? - That would suggest we lack courage and conviction of our own actions.

Those who insist on expressing these negative views? - Good Luck with that one!

Potential N900 owners? - I can't see Nokia producing this device for much longer, so that is a dwindling audience.

I agree wholeheartedly that N900 has some excellent qualities and that this forum has entirely too many whinging posts, but cannot really see a way out of this. That's why I mainly drift around this site and peer in & out of threads like some late-departed ghost re-visiting relatives to look on sadly as they squabble.

It's all become a bit sad, really...

In what tone should the answers be then? Think about it, you have said it already million times and then another idiot comes by and spreads the same FUD.... everyone has a breaking point and I am not wondering why qwerty left. The torrent of stupidity sucked him in and spit away.

..and the worst cases just keep on going, no matter how hard you give them facts, tomorrow another thread containing similar FUD. And you probably know what happends if you argue with idiots? So yes, the last word usually is from those mentioned latter. Even when it seems you don't notice it, you have in sub-concious level at least.

I am glad the forum rules have been changed, being in here has been an one bad nightmare for a long time. I kinda feared it before N900 was launched and my fears came true. No matter how many hours I spent with wiki making it better for newcomers, etc etc. And all I got as an reward was some imaginary points (read:karma) and hundreds of people who didn't know how to google and browse wiki....

I can say I tried all I could, can you say the same?

Yes I know nokia screwed you and you are still pissed about lack of support for n810 and all that "fixed in fremantle" -stuff but please..some people have contributed a hella lot, so shut the **** up for a while if you have nothing more to do than criticize nokia, support FUDders, etc etc...

e: in a nutshell:
the fanatic answers are nothing but a contra creation from FUD

None of those run Maemo.. And none of those are as configurable as the n900. Sure better devices for the masses but not as powerful as the n900. Sure the n900 got places where it lacks and when those are covered i will switch... but i fear it will take time until that is met.

Are they capable to run a full fledged desktop OS like Debian/Ubuntu/Fedora as good as the n900? How long do they hold the battery? Can you overclock them as easy?

But true.. this is not a black and white opinion.. In my mind there is no better device out there yet.

You could be brainwashed but i would just like to record my satisfaction with the N900. It works better than Nokia N95 and N97, esp N97 in terms of software and build.
I possibly have low expectations after these mobiles and HTC Touch Pro 2. Hasten to add HTC as mobile was fine but did not think much of Windows mobile.
Anyway despite negativity in these forums I am a happy bunny and have been grateful for support from the community, esp those that convinced me to give this mobile a go.
Have to say not overly impressed with Nokia at present. Sorry to end on negative.
Kind Regards,
Paul
