Depends on how bad the usb port is. I gave my n900 to two different phone repair shops. They each tried for about four days but were unable to fix it.

see this official thread at nokia site: http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/...ng/td-p/629019

certainly it looks like nokia is bluffing customer toward contacting customer care and in turn telling then is not covered under warranty.

how do you fancy contacting BBC watchdog on behalf of the community if they dont fix yours due to this nokia design fault?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/watchdog/...ngerous_goods/

I wonder what kind of quality test have been done before the usb snaps off, nokia should be able to provide these figures, and are all devices produced to same standard?

The n900 has a 2 year warranty and the broken usb is covered under this warranty. I would ask nokia to replace your phone.

Hmm not sure why they sent you to carphone warehouse. When I went to my local nokia care centre they sent me to carphone warehouse. But that was cause I bought my n900 in US and they said that means my warranty was not valid in the UK and the care point only does warranty repairs but the carephone warehouse service would fix it if I have my US receipt. Carphone warehouse held the phone for two weeks and then returned it saying the fault was caused by moisture damage which is not covered by warranty.

moisture is manufacturers free pass ticket. if your device has gotten moisture, all warranties break no matter what happends to your phone. moisture is a sign that you have used your device outside allowed conditions (temperature and moisture, can be found in manual)
