Very nice. Send it to Nokia . I suspect the N9 will be quite ugly. Nokia is not really known for pretty looking phones. More for functional, manly, bulky devices. Even N8 which they put a lot into the design is one of the ugliest smart phones I have ever seen. Not sure if what you designed is possible though, It doesn't have those black borders around the screen which all touch screens seem to have. Not sure why it is needed but they all seem to have it and cause wasted screen space.

Also your design lacks a hardware keyboard. The main stream prefers this as it makes devices thinner and more sexy looking. However, there are some (like me) who cannot do without a keyboard. Shouldn't Nokia be releasing two versions of the N9 to attract all potential customers. If it has a keyboard those who want the thinnest possible design will be uninterested. If it lacks a keyboard people like me would be uninterested. That should be the case but I doubt that is what Nokia is aiming for.

If Meego is going to be a success I think there need to be as many options available as possible. Manufacturers are not jumping aboard meego like they have with windows 7 so it should be up to Nokia to design as many different types of meego devices as possible and have them all ready at launch. After HTC managed to have four different windows 7 phones all with very different designs and an option for everyone.

So whats your thoughts on the phone itself, and how its compares to the n900? Thanks
It's dead boring like most Android phones. And if you are bored by the N900, then after two weeks of Desire HD and you will be bored to death. The Desire Z can at least be used, and is overall a better phone than the HD.

That actually looks sweet for a render. Say, do you think you might be able to do one for my concept I posted here a while ago? Here's the link if you're interested:

Any reasons for Android being boring? I've seen the videos, read the reviews, been told it will be getting the next update and have decided to buy it sim free. Will probably update to another phone again in 6-7 months by that time hopefully Meego will be out and doing well.

Because it is made by Google perhaps? Let's face the fact: Any other phone will be a step down in the 'tech-department' compared with the N900, hence boring All you can do with them is to change homescreen and install apps, How cool is that? not very. You can't even take decent pictures with them.

Android was interesting a couple of years ago, but today any Android phone is simply yet another Android phone. The only interesting parts of Android today are Sony Ericsson and Huawei.

My list of interesting phones looks something like this, in no particular order:
Nokia N8
Nokia E7
Nokia C7
Nokia C6-01
Nokia N900
Nokia N9 (still too much vapor but supposed to be cool)

LOL

Actually I am starting to feel a stronger and stronger urge for a real phone, like the old N95 8GB or smaller. A phone that does everything and works good as a phone with real keypad and T9. These 4 inc-ish touch screen devices doesn't 'satisfy' in the long run. Too small to watch the web, and clumsy as a phone - all of them (the N900 included). A nice, small, but advanced phone and a 6-7 inch tablet, thin and with keyboard in perfect harmony over Bt would be my dream. Maybe someday a 6-7 inch MeeGo pad and a svelte non-touch Symbian smartphone could do the trick, but until that day the N9 may be a compromise I could live with. Android - not so much.

Hmm surely anything the N900/Maemo can do the Desire HD/Android can do better or faster. Which to be honest i'm sure is what most people are after hence the talk of people waiting for the N9.

Sounds like your abit backwards in wanting an old school phone but fair do's thats your dream :P

Topic starter:

Desire HD sounds sweet - but make sure that u're ready to start using android...

Some things that u may take for granted with Maemo, may be features that u will need to "root" (jailbreak) your android, and void your warranty.

Go to your local store and try a Android phone. Test it to see if u like the interface, power features and such...

I've tried a couple of android phones the last years, and find them very confusing and less intuitive compared to N900 Maemo - so i think u should really try it before u make a decision.

Also be prepared to install apps, or doing heavy modding / customisation to get many of the "simple" features u take for granted on the N900.

First u may try NitDroid on your N900 and make sure that u will be satisfied with a Android-only phone.

Like i said before - try before u buy

Superhero:

Nice Design!
i would customize the design a bit though, as i want a battery stretching from "side to side" (...and your "sides" may be a bit too narrow for that).

also it would be nice with additional keyb buttons - since i think the N9 will have a 4 inch screen which should supply plenty of extra space

Like what? multitasking ? Androids are more phones than the N900, but for anything else the N900 is equal or better. Still, they are lousy phones compared with 'old fashioned' keypad phones, and lousy tablets compared with real tablets, and extremely lousy mobile computers compared with the N900. The N9 will also be a mobile computer, and that is what we are waiting for (at least I am )

But, the more I think about it, the more I am certain that I would rather have the N9 a bit larger, and no phone, and instead had a 'old fashioned' Symbian smartphone in addition to the N9. Still, maybe the N9 will be the perfect compromise, so I'l wait and see.

Hmmm, easy fix! Hey ericsson, I'll give you my address and you give me yours. I will post you a Nokia N95 in exchange for your N900. Deal?
