Hmm surely anything the N900/Maemo can do the Desire HD/Android can do better or faster.

Like what? multitasking ?Androids are more phones than the N900, but for anything else the N900 is equal or better. Still, they are lousy phones compared with 'old fashioned' keypad phones, and lousy tablets compared with real tablets, and extremely lousy mobile computers compared with the N900. The N9 will also be a mobile computer, and that is what we are waiting for (at least I am
)
But, the more I think about it, the more I am certain that I would rather have the N9 a bit larger, and no phone, and instead had a 'old fashioned' Symbian smartphone in addition to the N9. Still, maybe the N9 will be the perfect compromise, so I'l wait and see.

Sounds like your abit backwards in wanting an old school phone but fair do's thats your dream :P
Also your design lacks a hardware keyboard. The main stream prefers this as it makes devices thinner and more sexy looking. However, there are some (like me) who cannot do without a keyboard. Shouldn't Nokia be releasing two versions of the N9 to attract all potential customers. If it has a keyboard those who want the thinnest possible design will be uninterested. If it lacks a keyboard people like me would be uninterested. That should be the case but I doubt that is what Nokia is aiming for.
If Meego is going to be a success I think there need to be as many options available as possible. Manufacturers are not jumping aboard meego like they have with windows 7 so it should be up to Nokia to design as many different types of meego devices as possible and have them all ready at launch. After HTC managed to have four different windows 7 phones all with very different designs and an option for everyone.
