Thinking about it - the only thing that may have caused any damage to the device was the fact that I often kept it on my desk around 3 feet away from a speaker (genelec 8030a) could the magnet in a speaker cause any hardware failure? Hmm

considering the n900 has internal magnets anyway, I dont think this would be the case.
Maybe if it had a HDD rather than NAND.

Hope the music played was not the reason for your phone committing suicide .

although i highly doubt overclockin might kill ones device but still in any case did u OC ur device?
