Here in the US, Amazon still has them in stock. I don't think you are in immediate danger of missing out.

BTW, this is my first post from my brand new n900! Still getting the hang of it, but I've gotta say browsing the web on this thing is sheer joy compared to my old iPhone.

(Oh, and I've just gotta say, why are people so interested in thin phones? The first time I made a call with this thing, I was surprised how comfortable it felt to hold a phone that actually fit into the palm of my hand. The iPhone is so thin I can't both rest it in my palm and hold it to my ear...)

Actually, you would have been far more accurate to have instead pointed out that GM, following Nokia's lead, is also no longer selling and manufacturing any more Saturn and Pontiac vehicles. The difference, though, is that at least GM is still supporting Saturn and Pontiac owners and parts suppliers for several years while they wrap up the relationships with their customers properly.

Yes, kinda. It was part of their development plan for Maemo, and it has been a lot more successful in terms of sales than they thought it would be.

Maemo as it is doesn't have any serious bugs that need fixing, so I wouldn't worry too much if Nokia doesn't provide any more software updates for it. The only worry is that it might break in warranty and Nokia can't replace it because it is discontinued and they have run out of stock.

You'll probably find that the flash plugin is insecure. There is a potential that browsing the wrong site could let someone tunnel in, and running code as user easily passwdlessly sudo to root 0wning your phone. It would need the flash exploit to work on the arm version.

I bought an N900 in October in 2009. We had an update not too long ago. What more could one realistically expect? I had an HTC G1 before it, and it stopped getting Android updates too.
You give no reason for suggesting there might be security problems or serious problems with the OS. Are you making up that garbage or passing it along from others (and if so, where did you get this nonsense)?
Frankly, I assumed production of the N900 had already stopped. It can't be long if not.

they stoped it cause threre is to many whinners in US that prefer shitty android or iphone.

Mysself could infact undestan Harri Harkulin (that infact talks that he already seems to not like meego....) when he is saying on the meego conference that n900+meego is for developers only...

just ask youself this question: what would you fell as a developer if everyone dished your os(maemo) and whinned that we want meego on n900?

as i see it n900+maemo5 still kicks asses of broken linux(=android) and closed crap IOS
..

maemo could be a killer OS(in combination with QT) but eveyone wants android and dont have a clue about how long time development actually takes..

and yes I know that I also has whinned herew about slow progress in the meego but still...

sometimes we have to use our brains before whinning in a forum..

[QUOTEwantss=chiques;894015]12-10-2010:
I went to the NOKIA site and checked out how much the N900 was and noticed it does not have a price next to it. I started asking around and a few people have mentioned the N900 has stopped shipping because of operating system issues. Apparently this is the Maemo to Meego transition and for some reason NOKIA is unable to support this. Is this accurate or am I missing something?

This phone is amazing, I don't understand why they would stop selling it. Another worry I had is the security of the phone. Is there a potential security hole or something in the current OS???

Any comments appreciated.[/QUOTE]

There are almost certainly security holes in the version of Flash included on the N900. There have been several security fix updates to the desktop Flash since the N900 came out, so unless those fixes were backported and included in the PR updates*, it is likely those vulnerabilities still exist in the version we have, and even if they have been fixed silently, Flash is still a piece of garbage security-wise so there are likely more to be discovered. The flip side is that the N900 is a niche platform, which means it is unlikely to be targeted, this is security by obscurity which is a very poor form of security but can sometimes be enough. You can limit this attack vector by using adflashblock-css (for MicroB) or something similar which stops flash running until clicked on, and by only running Flash content on trusted sites.

Security holes in the rest of the OS? Well, he was specifically talking about Flash, not the OS as a whole, but I'll carry on, there is no specific reason to suspect security holes, other than statistics, there is a lot of code that goes into making the OS so it is quite possible there are undiscovered vulnerabilities in there, and Maemo clearly hasn't been designed with security in mind.

*This is a possibility since the Flash binary seemed to change in the latest PR update, though I find it odd that they would go to the effort of backporting the fixes just for the N900.
