Where do you have the N900 when you make/receive a call? In a phone holder on the windshield? I would've have thought the Mic would be too far away to pick up your voice but I'll give it a try nonetheless!

Just saw this topic.

Just released version 0.4, which is available in extras-devel now:

The verion can also be found on the project page.

- fixed a bug shutting down the carkit correctly
- not hiding the menu after toggling the carkit

how it works in short: enable fm-carkit from the status menu, wait for a call and after answering it the carkit will automatically activated after a couple of seconds.

I have it in my ashtray holder, and it works fine

Roeland, apps like this is what lifts the N900/Maemo and possibly one day MeeGo beyond the locked in alternatives. It pushes beyond what people already expect in a cell phone. It's not just flash games and flashy apps, it's new functionality.

I have not installed it yet, but thanks to this thread, I will, now.

So, Thanks.

Just tried this FM carkit,

FM carkit doesn't work for me, it does switch on the FM transmitter, but no sound is transmitted. I still hear the sound coming directly from the phone.
I have "Phone Speakers Switcher" installed and have unlocked my FM transmitter wich are working fine. Running PR1.3 thanks in Advance!

dont really have the need for this but like someone else said, this is what sets the N900 apart from other mobile devices.

not quite sure how it would work in a real use case...

so you have to tune your radio in when you get a call?

This is very handy when you use the FM transmitter in your car for playing music. Then your car radio is already tuned for playing the music, with this extra feature there is no more need for a extra carkit for your phone, you will hear the phone conversations thru your car speakers.
