Hi,

I am a N770 and a linux newbie...so far, I have been pretty sucessful in figuring things out, but I have 2 question on how to install bluefish.

1. Where do I find libpcre3? I have a meamo-hackers repository in my catalog, but I do not see this package. What is the full URL, distribution, and user that I should use? I am on a N770.

2. When I download the bluefish tar, do I just save it in the folder of the name I gave my 770? (I do understand how to unpack it so no need to explain that.)

Thanks for your help!

I don't know if this will run on the 770, it was compiled for the N800 using the "bora" SDK, and I have neither a 770 nor a development environment for it.

That said, the URL to the pcre files is
http://maemo-hackers.org/apt/pool/main/p/pcre3/
You can just download the .deb from there, and install it via "ipkg -i libpcre3xxx.deb" in a terminal window. If that's too complex, I'm sorry, I don't know which maemo-hackers repo you have, and can't tell you what's gone wrong with it.

If you're downloading the tarball to your PC, you'll need to copy the tarball to your 770, then unpack it there. If you're downloading to your 770, open a terminal, change to the / directory, and then use tar to unpack it. That will put the binary in the /usr/bin directory, and the needed icons, etc in the proper directory.

Sorry if this is complex, bluefish isn't ready for primetime by any stretch of the imagination, I just compiled it, and it needs lots of work still.

Please don't quit working on this. It would be a godsend to have an html/css editor on the n800.

It's not that I've quit, it's more that I don't know C, nor GTK+. I'd posted it as a proof-of-concept, in the hopes that someone more skilled than I could deal with hildonization, etc. If and when I get some time, I may work on learning C, but don't hold your breath!

Seems libpcre3 is no longer available from maemo hackers. Anybody successful in getting bluefish going on OS2008?
