Before the N900, I used Nokia E65 - it was the most popular mobile phone (by the user - me). Before that, I had the Nokia 6510...it too, was the most popular mobile phone (by the user - again, me).
I think this vote could be very subjective (by the users). It is the current technology that we are using every day, so yes, it is absolutely to most popular mobile phone by the users (perspective)...until we switch.
