Bleh. For IT I used to have to take screenshots of doing stuff in word and excel. Times have changed Even in computer science we did Pascal. I wish we all got involved in a big project that actually required skill. Bleh.

Anyway, isn't there already a project like this going on?

Don't merge these! Keep them separate!

What's the point of duplicating the effort?

Perhaps Ferrari and Lamborghini should get together and make the perfect supercar. After all, they are currently wasting time duplicating effort and combining their skills can only result in something better, right?

Wrong.

I am not suggesting that merging projects is always a bad idea, just that it appears to be the automatic response in the FOSS community. Plurality leads to better results in most cases.

Not merging the two doesn't make sense. Both are aimed at hildonizing Meego and providing capable reference apps. Now, once that is complete there could be several different UIs. Cordia is aimed at getting the Maemo 5 UI on top on Meego, but that is just the start. Once the foundation is there im sure other UIs will emerge.

It just seems like a lot of wasted energy to have two people working on the same exact stuff (which they will be for the bulk of the project) without sharing information and combining their efforts.

I think both have good points. Both projects probably should talk to each other to see if there is something both projects can use.

At the same time, the decision to merge should come from those running the project if it is in their best interest to merge. Considering that this guy is doing it as part of his school project, it might not be in his best interest to merge it.

Go! Go! Go!

Do what ever you want: Rape, pillage, ..., etc. And "Have fun storming the castle!"

Oh, and take good notes for all to see. Thanks!

Because it is the right thing to do.

Wrong. Competition leads to better results. But since this is a community and not a capitalistic marketplace, I think collaboration is the best way forward.
