That's not a motivation to buy the N900 because iPhones (and some HTC, Sony ericssons) are way more expensive than the N900, but I'm not sure for the other parts of the world.

Skype via WLAN is free, how can it be cheaper, are they *paying* you?

Kidding aside, I assume you means Skype over 3G? That's odd because here, "3G video calls" cost an arm and a leg (which is why I think nobody ever used them), whereas flat-rate data packages are cheap, hence, for ME, even on 3G, skype video is free too.

MasterZap: we don't have wlan everywhere. Unless I'm at home or somewhere with wlan service on. If you are out of wlan coverage, then data service charges will need to kick in. And unlike your location, ours is currently rather expensive ~USD20 for 500Mb. On the other hand, our network service providers have 3G video call as same charge as a standard call. That's why I said I don't have other friends on Skype video call all the time. But almost everyone who has a phone will have 3G video call auto-enabled.

1.we are not talking about whether phone is expensive or not.In india which is a top market for NOKIA a person who buys a smart phone definitely thinks that it has 3g video calling feature.Thats so basic here. All N series phones can do that.
2.Just because some people always hang up around home wifi.office wifi, some hotspots does not mean that we in India do not want that 3g video calling ability.
3.May be people from the other side of the world do not want it,or found it expensive is not a justification on the part of Nokia.
I personally feel that i should have had that feature enabled since 3g video calling cost us same as standard call.
4. I know maemo is nascent.
5.I believe some worthy programmers can do that.I ll be the first one to pay for that.
6.we,who want 3g video calling, know what we can do with skype,Google talk.
regards

a man's garbage is another man's gold..ever heard of that?it means, if u don't want that feature enabled, doesn't mean anyone else doesn't want it too..

i want 3G aswell, but i could live without it..and yes..at my place, video call via 3G (as in per minute) is cheaper than skype video call via 3g (as in per kb of data)..

the reason why there are still no 3G apps develop from the devs - the driver is closed source...period..nothing we can do about it, unless nokia makes the closed source...well..open...
