Oh, I just hope MeeGo will be a HUGE success and Nokia will regret ditching it when it was so close to launch. That'd be pretty ironic.

In a sense I think that will be the case. But then again Nokia's strategy is to see what catches on and becomes the next hit thing, and then just come out with a MeeGo device that suits those needs.

Nokia has publicly said it will no longer be a leader but a follower (at least in terms of innovation), and that's what "Looking for future disruptions" means. They will keep in touch with MeeGo and when something big happens, they hope to have software in place to counter it.

On another note - I watched the launch of Mango (thats the next windows mobile release) and I have to say (don't hate me) that there were some really nice features and they have obviously given a LOT of thought to the interface and usability.

I'm learning that these announcements need to be read carefully. The announcement was actually:

This week LG Electronics joined a working group to develop a handset version of the software, joining companies like ZTE and China Mobile, Halla said.
That could be just an exploratory project. There are many firms tinkering with MeeGo without a firm commitment or (certainly) an actual product.

In fact, LG responds to Halla's comment:

An LG spokesman splashed some cold water on Halla’s excitement, telling Reuters that the company still has no plans to deliver MeeGo phones. “At this point in time LG has no definitive plans to mass produce devices with MeeGo other than car infotainment systems,” he said.

More support is always good. Hope it will actually develop into an end-user product. Just hope the build quality will be good, for LG is a little infamous on that part IMHO.

The people saying the negatives about LG... think of it this way. At least MeeGo gets a chance to be used and pushed out.

but its great to hear that lg will do something with meego. they are not the biggest smartphone company, but a well known one and its good for meego to have as much as possible companys behind it...

When I hear that everyone will get happy because of Meego being succesful and Nokia not being part of it I think Nokia's move would be then to show the best Meego phone on the market. Nokia was there and is waiting until the best moment, and then... BAM!! Surprise, surprise.

That's another question. I think is a really good news to hear that other companies are putting efforts into Meego.
