Skype accounts default to Euros (at least they did when I started one). You can change the currency setting on the website.

It warns you that you may lose out on exchange rates, since it converts your current balance to a new currency, so it's best to do it when your balance is low.

[QUOTE=eth777;57555]Since skype is p2p, if I have it running in the background all the time, all the p2p connections will keep using the network, and eat away battery power right? QUOTE]

I think that even the PC client doesn't always act as a 'supernode' (as they call a p2p node). It is meant to be dependent on cpu and network performance, so hopefully that won't happen, but I don't know.

Someone should do a netstat while it is running, you'll see a bunch of connection to random addresses.

Problems with Skype:

1. The "new user" sign up procedure is awful - you have to re-enter all the information (full name, username, two passwords and email address) each and every time you choose a username that is already in use, which is very likely! It took me about 6 attempts before I entered a username that wasn't in use! Although it's something you do only once, it's badly designed and extremely annoying and unnecessarily tedious.

2. It's appears impossible to edit the number of an existing contact - there is no "Edit" option, so you have to remove and add the contact again with the correct number.

3. You can't receive calls unless Skype is started, yet there is no option to start Skype on boot... it would be better if Skype were integrated into the Accounts and Presence control panel applets along with Google and Jabber

4. The "Edit Contact" screen is very weird - you have to exit the screen by pressing the window "X" icon when a "Cancel" button would have worked or at least give the window it's own icon in the Task bar, and the virtual keyboard "sliding up" stroke to enter shifted letters/numbers doesn't work.

A major gripe I have with Skype on the N800 is I can't find a way to play voicemail. The voicemail works on Windows but not on the N800. What good is it for you to see you've got a voicemail in history if you can't play it?

Hold your stylus down on the voicemail and a menu will pop up allowing you to listen.

Thanks so much for that info! My major gripe just went away. Skype on the N800 just became very cool.
