i really doubt that it is your router cause if it does the all keys are in ASCII...never i have seen keys from a router in HEX unless you using fAircrack, cleven or wepon to find the keys....
26 HEX keys is equal to 13 ASCII keys so you proberly trying to hacks someone router....
But HEX should work As on school I got the key from a windows computer using siw and it was HEX, needed the app wpa-keys to work tho as it was a 64 char long HEXkey. But if you enter a HEX key it should work also =/

does "ifconfig wlan0" give an ip by inetaddr ?

yes i know HEX keys works but he said that is his own router (i dont thinks so) so when you go to the router setup the keys is not in HEX but in ASCII...
now where did he got the HEX keys??
hmmm...unless he use fAircrack & cleven but...
why use those program to get the keys when you can just open your router setup to get the keys??
hmmm...unless he trying to hack some else router

What confuses me is the fact it works perfectly well to connect on my nokia e63. On my N900 it just for some reason will not accept that long key i stated a few posts ago. It will not let me connect to the router. It says network timeout everytime. I dont know if i need to enable/disable something on the phone or what??

I dont have aircrack or any 3rd party software as i cant do that because i have no internet access.
That key is definately the key my sister uses and it will not work on the n900. Everything else it will.... just not the n900. its most bizarre.

Are you pasting it perhaps with an additional space?

Definitely HEX as it is 0-9 + A-F which is a total of 16

What are the other settings on that page? and what is the manfacturer of you router, maybe I can help you to change it

Ok thanks for the info there guys.
It is a Livebox-0D98 router.

the other settings on the exact page are:
Channel number (which is set to 1)
apart from that, that is all.. and of course the option to change the wireless key itself.
Let me know if anymore info is required in order to help me.

Thanks very much again.

Well that's not much info that your router gives...
In my router (sitecom) I have 7 option
SSID:
Broadcast ESSID: on or off
Encryption: WEP or WPA
WPA Type:
Pre-Shared Key type: HEX or Passphrase
Pre-Shared Key: mykey

I was actually looking for something like that
Can you actually connect with the router or do you get network error?

Can you use wpa instead of wep? As wep is being cracked in less than 4 minutes on a n900 :P imagine on a normal laptop :P

Why wep is bad:

Nah wpa-keys is an application for hex wpakeys of 64 char, but your key isn't 64 characters so I don't know the problem...

Try to use wpa if you can, must be somewhere configurable
