Kudo for Pinsh, thanks to you, I've just found syncevolution.

Just a little tip, there is no need to make the configuratio through the command line. The GUI works well and makes the job perfectly.

Didn't test the Google Contacts sync yet, just the calendar.

Hi all,
Little update to say the Contacts sync seems also to work well directly through the Syncevolution GUI.

For me, the synchronization of Contacts works mostly fine but some of the contacts get duplicates (not only when synchronizing but also when connected to Google Talk). I think it's related to having multiple phone/email entries and I remembered to read something related to that but now I cannot find it. Any info about how to fix it?

Sometimes a contact gets its address duplicated, one with dots at the end of each field and the other without them.

The last issue I found is that Goolge Talk accounts change to Jabber accounts from time to time.

Select a contact that is duplicated on your list and on top hit the bar with the contact name.
On the dropdown menu you'll see merge contact, hit it and find the duplicated one and save.

Yep, I've done that a dozen times but they every time a sync they get duplicated.

I understand but i read somewhere that there are problems with syncing contacts, i use Nokia Ovi Suite, but only for contacts, it works perfect, both ways.
For the calander i use google calendar and Mail for exchange on my N900 but also only for calendar, and also no problems here.

I haven't had many problems with Erminig. The only usability issue I have are with recurrent events that are moved/deleted as part of a one-time exception. For example (assuming that all changes happen in my work Outlook calendar, and are successfully synced with my Google calendar), if I have an Outlook meeting that recurs weekly on Mondays, and that Monday meeting gets moved to a Wednesday as a one-time exception, Erminig successfully gets the new Wednesday update to show up on my N900 calendar, but does not delete the original Monday meeting for that week.

Is this something that caldav can successfully address, or is this simply an issue inherent to the weaknesses of the N900 calendar (in other words, is it worth it to move to the Syncevolution/caldav soultion)?

For me yes, no doubt. SyncEvolution is far more superior to Erminig. And it can sync not only calendar but also contacts, really great.

Can someone help please? I don't know how to install the version of syncevolution it talks about. I have tried downloading the deb file but get the message it's incompatible, I have tried adding the developer's repo but it doesn't seem to be the version you guys are using.

Hold on - uninstalling the old version seems to have done the trick (only took me 3 hours to work that out - face palm moment!)

Nice guide.

I am hoping to get a bit simpler setup for calendar and contacts syncing. I tried the syncevolution a while ago but it always failed somehow on my big data set. I have 600 contacts and 1000s of calendar events. (It works as my diary for my life ) Every time after 250 contacts it would say crash and boom. As the version and setup is different I will look into it again at some point.

Ofcourse if the guys having more time on their hands would post their results with bigger data sets I would appresiate it.

Also it would be a dream come trough if CSSU could have parts of Harmattans MfE work and calendar. Couple of my friends have an N9 and its calendar is working Fast I hear.

Anyhow back to work...

OffTopic:
I have been using Erminig-ng and Mfr Combination for almost two years now.

My setup:

I use the MfE to sync contacts and main calendar and Erminig-ng to sync rest of the calendars.

I also need another work calendar (sadly outlook) which I sync through a dummy Google account. I need to do this because MfE doesn't support two separate accounts. So I sync from work with google-sync(windows client) to Dummy account which shares the calendar with another google accoung where it gets synced with N900 by erminig.
