Don't get me wrong , I adore Maemo5. My N900 is probably the best smartphone I ever had.

But... why would you wanna do that and loose the Meego Harmattan experience? The Swipe UI is genious.

Just get an N900.

Don't judge only by numbers.

for example, Final Fantasy 7 > 8. Windows XP > Millenium.VW Golf > Golf 2. Terminator 2 > 3.

etc

I had an N900--it was my first Nokia--and I loved it, but had to move on to my E7 and N9. I was surprised that the N9, which is designed for one-handed use, did not incorporate the swirl gesture for the zoom function, as Maemo 5 did. In fact, I was wondering if this aspect of Maemo could be brought to the Nokia N9 experience.

This would be a cool opening step to Maemo 5+6 integration. Gestures that are from Maemo 5 and that are fun and useful.

The "swirl gesture" was a clever way to zoom because the N900 lacked multitouch and you couldn't pinch-to-zoom.

The N9 supports pinch-to-zoom. So why having a swirl gesture? Makes no sense imo.

The best things from Maemo5 I miss on my N9 are the keyboard shortcuts.

Those numerous key combinations that behave similar to a PC keyboard. Off course the N9 lacks a keyboard but I think not even the N950 has those shortcuts the N900 has.

So that it stays true to its intention, phone meant for one-handed use. Swirl gesture will allow that, pinch-zoom requires two hands.

Hmmm.. not really. A phone that has a nice size (not too large) like the N9 , can let you pinch to zoom with one hand.

Even easier on my smaller N8.

On large devices though (SGS3, Note, Xperia S, RAZR etc), I agree, it's impossible to operate them with one hand.

I agree with Patlak that for one-hand use, even with the N9, the swirl gesture is much more convenient. It is true that you can pinch with one hand, using your thumb and your index, but if you stick with one hand use, it won't be accurate at all, you can't pinch wherever you want on the screen, and the gesture is everything but natural. Pinch to zoom is great if you can use your two thumbs or hold the phone with one hand and pinch with thumb + index of the other one.

Different hands, different experiences, different tastes.

Off course there is not "one truth" and one only. Agreed on that.
