Hi Fionn & Cwichura. I actually returned my 770 today for exchange to a new unit, so I'm hoping the problems I've experienced with both the wifi & the screen (see the 770 forum for that thread!) will be resolved with the replacement. Unfortunately it could be 7 days or more (thanks to a postal strike) before I get my replacement.

Both my friend and I have Netgear DG834G routers and use the same ISP with similar settings. There were other locked AP's visible when I did connect. My g/f can connect her laptop to my router, but the 770 wouldn't connect at all. The problem could have been with my router, but I visited about a dozen public access hotspots and couldn't connect to any of them. I even reset to factory settings whilst at one of the hotspots and although the 770 could (again) see the AP, it wouldn't connect. Unfortunately I don't have another wifi enabled device to check if the AP's do work, but I'm fairly sure they do/should. To be honest, I'm convinced I just had a duff unit.

I appreciate there any many many variables that govern access to wifi networks and there is no one device (770/N800 included) can expect to handle every redundant/current/future standard, but it seems odd that individual users of both 770/N800's seem to experience such differing success rates when using their Tablets away from home. Hardware malfunction effecting firmware performance possibly?

I've been a Nokia fan/sucker for over ten years now - I love their products and have never allowed a particular device's shortcomings to spoil the overall enjoyment. I intend to get a Nokia N95 soon, even though I've read hundreds of threads concerning hardware/firmware issues. I have to say though, my first few days with a 770 were very disappointing

Slightly off topic, this is the first Nokia device I've owned that wasn't made in Finland - the returned 770 was made in Estonia. Can anyone comment on build quality differences?
