Well, that depends...it's NOT a good thing if the majority of the devices "in this space" are crap as that will then give "this space" a bad name in the general press reviews which could lead companies to abandon the "space".
This Archos device leaves a bad taste in my mouth after taking a closer look at it's "business model" of charging for every little software "extra".
And God help them if ANYTHING they charge for in the future is based upon open source software or in violation of any open source copyrights.
What is the underlying OS on this thing? WinCE or Linux/Unix or whatever?

There is no rule that says people cannot charge money for Open Source Software. But I agree on the Archos-business model-bad taste statement.They've changed, man.

Also, all codecs seem to be limited to DVD resolution playback, meaning that, although it's resolution is better than the N800's practical limit of 400x240, the 605 won't use its screen real estate to the max either.
