it's just the balance between usability and functionnality. It's hard to get both, and most people actually need usability.
Just like I use nano over vi.

discontinued webos phones might still be available for either verizon or att. on webos, you do a swipe from the bottom of your screen up to put your current app in the background (essentially minimizing it). if you don't want to close it, you just choose another running app using left and/or right swipes or pick a new app to launch. if you do want to close it, it's still right in front of you (albeit in a smaller windowed-version of the app), so you can easily just swipe it off the screen (which closes it).

it's super intuitive. i switch between android and webos regularly on my touchpad, and every time i make the switch from webos back to android, i find myself still trying to use the webos gestures...
