It overwrites what you had. Eventually I'd like to make it "upgrade" the database rather than overwrite it, but for 1.0.4, deleting the DB was easier.

I have Python 2.5 installed and no previous versions of your player. The 1 click download did it's thing and I have 2 new apps in the "Extras" folder, the player and the scanner.

Launching the player pops up the app loading window... then nothing. Launching the scanner also does nothing.

Am I missing something here?

Not sure.

The best thing to do is SSH into your tablet and run `kagu-scanner` from an xterm. Please paste the last 10 lines of the output here.

Actually, i had the same issue. I tried the scanner and the app and got nothing. It turned
out that /home/user/.kagu was owned by the "root" user and group for some reason.
I did 'rm -Rf .kagu' and then ran kagu from the app menu and it worked just fine now. .kagu is now owned by "users" instead of "root".

How do things get owned incorrectly? I have the same issue as above, and have never included any "hacks" to the device to allow root access etc, so how does that particular problem occur?

Also how do you fix it without the need to get xterm and go hacking things about, surely an app installed from the application manager should "just work" for every user.

uh. That will be a problem for new installations. I fixed it in trunk, we'll probably roll a new release in a few hours.

edit/answer: It's caused by the fix we made in 1.0.4. The postinst script runs kagu-scanner to remove the previous db, but runs it as root, and if it's a fresh installation prefs directory is created with root permissions. The new code in trunk (possibly 1.0.5) will run the initial kagu-scanner as "user", it will also fix /home/user/.kagu permissions before doing so. Sorry about the setback.

Great. Nice answer and even better to have a fix in the pipeline

Released 1.0.5, fixes the above problem as well as some enhancements we managed to get out of trunk:

* Fix postinst script permission problems
* Support exec loops back and forth between kagu and kagu-scanner
* NowPlayingButton not visible if the playlist is empty
* Faster scrolling
* Performance enhancements
It's in the bora (also gregale, for 770 users) extras repository, and also on the garage project page.

Again, sorry about two borked (so far :P ) releases in a row.

Also, 1.0.5 includes some fixes for SongPositionView. In 1.0.4 it was failing to jump to the current time when SongPositionView was first opened. This should be fixed now. Also, using the dpad to select a time in the SongPositionView would fail to reset the timeout and the view would close after 5 seconds while you're trying to find the time you want to seek to. This is fixed too. Dpad works like tap and drag now and both actions will reset the 5 second timeout properly.

Frankly, 1.0.5 is what 1.0.3 should have been. It's a much nicer release. Oh well. Release early, release often.

I don't know if this would be the right thread to put this, but I have a group of songs that I have put under a directory and gave them all an album name (granted its a bogus name) with the hopes it would come up in the album list. The scanner lists the bogus album but of course doesn't find one. When kagu runs, the bogus album doesn't show up, hence I can't find a way to listen to the songs in that directory then. I could look into the source, but thought I would ask here first. Would this be a feature (ie, only known albums are playable) or a new request to extend the application?
