what do you mean?

how can I check syslog?

In case this could be usefull info, I still have ubiboot in place and may be able to telnet into the n9 if I'd have a linux pc at hand...

Exactly. If you have a HW problem with your screen, then the same thing is going to be faulty on ubiboot also.
Just boot into maintanace mode, telnet in and get "dmesg"

no idea,

I'm almost certain I didn't short anything....

can't be the ribbon cable because I have a spare screen with the same issue
it would imho be a one in a million to just damage the touch input part of the screen/cable/connector.....

tested the old battery, no luck ...

flashed new main image, no luck ...

no clue what it could be?!!

I will post dmesg output tomorrow and hope for the best!!!

maybe it's a sign of god to move on^^

OK, unfortunately I have to tell you the bad news.
Your touchscreen HW is broken. It is either the cable, or the connector, or the chip itself that's not functioning correctly.

You should have something like this in your dmesg:
Code:
input: Atmel mXT Touchscreen as /devices/platform/i2c_omap.2/i2c-2/2-004b/input/input3
atmel_mxt: Atmel mXT Touchscreen v1.6 (0x29b82f) var:0x1 bld:0xab
And instead you have this:
Code:
atmel_mxt 2-004b: error in preinit -5
atmel_mxt 2-004b: handler returned with -5

would you guys go for another (I mean it's 3 year-old hardware but the design and os is just slick as **** )

maybe I have to settle for some android crap....

The cable is torn probably I replaced my wifes Lumia 800 screen for the miserly price of £26. However i had to but two as I managed to tear the connection lead and the touch screen stopped responding. It was a tiny tear but enough to kill one of the copper tracks.

The other thing that can happen is the proximity sensor gets dislodged but that only affects the screen when you try making or naging up a call.

So the worst news is the screen needs replacing. But the good news is that genuine N9 screens (and yes i know they are different from Lumia 800 ones) can be had for very little on ebay. The very nature of the limited production run of the N9 means there are very few fake parts as there just was not the demand for the fakers to bother.
