Thanks for responding!

I' getting no such file or directory. Updates 4 and 5 are in the MyDocs directory. My guess is the destination folder may be on my memory card, i am not too familiar with linux/maemo (but i'm willing to learn).

I used the 1st post of "can you smell it...Gingerbread" (EMMC version) and followed the directions exactly. I am very pleased with what i am able to do so far. You knowledgeable Maemo/linux guys make the n900 the best phone on the market.

I followed this procedure from the thread i talked about earlier.

Applying Updates:
Be sure that your update.tar.bz2 is in MyDocs, then do the following:

Code:
root
cd /home/user/MyDocs
bzip2 -d nameofpackage.tar.bz2
cd /
mount /home /and
cd /and
tar xvf /home/user/MyDocs/nameofpackage.tar

update 1,2, and superuser seems to have worked fine ( there is a superuser icon in android apps on my phone). updates 4 and 5 are in the same directory I had 1, 2, and superuser.

EDIT: If the sound is working, are voicecalls feasible? This is my primary phone and have limited time to play with android unless I can use it on a permanent basis. Great work OP, thanks!
================================================

Looks like the phone is almost functional with android except for making phone calls. Looking forward to that ....

Thanks for the help (everybody), fixed my Keyboard and what ever else update 5 did, with this:

Files were already downloaded to MyDocs
Then opened up X-Term

* Please note I DO NOT know how to code in Linux/Maemo!! *
* I just pieced this together from searching through Gingerbread threads *

1. sudo gainroot (I noticed some people just use ROOT, I'm embarrased to say I don't know which is better to use)
2. mount /home /and
3. cd /home/user/MyDocs
4. mv /home/user/MyDocs/LatinIME.apk /and/system/app
5. mv /home/user/MyDocs/gps.nokia.so /and/system/lib/hw/

then shut down x term.

My keyboard was fixed (bigger/usable) and since I don't have a network connection I'm not sure if the GPS thing works or not, so I'm guessing I did something right!

Hopefully this helps others like me!!
