I feel I have to clarify my view also.

I. Love. My. N900. There isn't a device in the world I'd switch it for. Overclocked(yeah don't do it), there is nothing that comes close to it in performance.

But would I recommend it for someone who wants MMS, GPS navigation, good calendar, MSN(works, but kills battery) or above all, a user-friendly and simple device? Never.

No

It's not a phone but an internet tablet with the capability to make phone calls.

I would say just stick with the phone you've got....and wait for a few months and hopefully there will be a device with similar or better specs compared to the N900.

Maemo has been merged with Intel's Moblin to create MeeGo, which will be on future devices, potentially including the N900. There is currently at least one pending update for the N900, with more likely down the line.

Stay away, do not buy this phone. Unless you want to buy it from me, in which case $500 and it's yours.

Here is my first thread is this forum, so hi everyone

I'm going to buy a new phone, and what I want is ...

1. Calendar - I just want to use calendar to remind me sometime. If it can sync with Windows Live Calendar, It will much better

2. Messenger - I like to online Windows Live Messenger all day, n900 good about this? (and Ovi Chat is it good?)

3. GPS - I never use GPS but now I want really good GPS that can take me to anywhere and not make me lost

4. User-friendly - I don't want a phone that hard to understand, I'm just a basic user, and use it easily so I don't want to edit with some code

5. SMS and MMS - I use both all the time I know that n900 can't use MMS, can I fix it or install something to make it work?

That's all I want

And last thing ...what about the future of n900, Should I buy it now or wait for a meego device? (I search many thread about this but I want the latest information. All thread that have is so old right now)

Thanks a lot
1.- Calendar is Awsome.

2.- You can download pidign, which rocks with msn.

3.- It SUCKS, it always hangs, you can not depend on it.

4.- You won't like this one, it is pretty difficult in comparation to all cellphones.

5.- SMS is great, you can MMS with another app.

I say yes get it!
i have owned the iphone 3gs,htc touch pro2, htc hd,htc hd2, moto droid, and few others.

this phone is fun to use and the call quality is really really nice! My wife called me today and I answered in speaker phone. When we finished talking I asked her if i sounded okay in speaker phone mode. she said "you are in speaker phone, i could not tell, you sound great."

To ME the PHONE part of the n900 is perfect. sure it could use a better looking phone skin. but if looks is what is more important i would buy an iphone, lousy phone quality.

Also,I LOVE how fast my sms's and email go once i send them. The n900 just works! I have giving it 4 resets since i have owned the phone (a week). But the only reason i did the resets was because Im use to the OTHER phones ive owned, LOL.

To ME this phone just keeps getting better and better! Even my battery has improved very much. Last night I streamed 4 hours of tv shows, 42minutes long (each show) before battery died down.

The copy and paste shortcuts the keyboard gives you is the same as the desktops, I love it.

I can go on and on, this phone is made for people who are advanced and know and like hacking and such. but you dont need to do that to love and enjoy this phone.

One thing i dont like, the space bar on the keyboard! I keep hitting the M many times! To be honest i really need to practice and all should be good.

For what you want, this phone will deliver and do so much more. BUY IT!

Im really saddened by the amount of No's.. but I guess I'm not surprised with the way the site has been lately.

I like my N900.. it does what I need it to. That's really all I can say. Plus, keep in mind that: People that have problems tend to be much louder than people without.

Ive run into most of the flaws everyone has brought up here. Many can be fixed, but it usually involves some fairly complicated tweaking. Tweaking, not hacking or programming; you can do it all only entering Xterm occasionally, but it will take some time. Most of what you want will work, perhaps not elegantly, perhaps with the need to carry around a few batteries, but will work.

But most any smartphone from the past few years can do all that. Its true what you say about the current gen Android hardware -- ie the lack of good options if you dont like the N1 or the Droid -- but maybe you could pick up an older Symbian, Blackberry, or Windows Mobile device with a hardware keyboard and GPS that could do all that you want, maybe even cheaper. Nothing you listed plays to the strength of the N900 -- i.e. mainly the ability to run Linux apps and the incredibly functional browser. And in my opinion the solid camera, though many have problems with that.

I like my N900, but in looking at the negative comments in this thread, you have to keep in mind that what THMaemo listed pretty much made him the perfect candidate for being really disappointed with it.

I would say the N900 is a great device and a fun toy for a lot of people, but not the phone for him.
