Okay, you're wrong. Now what?
I'm not sure you're in the same discussion. You appear to have deliberately misinterpreted my point so that you can talk about something else.

Seems like the hecklers aren't that bright either.

completely agree with you. I dont think people are saying they want the n810 to "just work" in terms of having a working msn prinstalled. an amazing vid/audio prog, or whatever. I think people just hate having to jump through hoops to get a simple application like msn on there. seriously though, I knew nothing about Linux going in to this, im amazed at how much I've done with the n810 trying to upgrade, install and whatever, proud of myself for being able to learn all that, but LOLing at the fact that I actually had to do all that.

For example, just-works can be applied to any ecosystem (Windows, Linux, OSX). Take the default unit, use whatever defaults are given to you. Given those rules, most systems will just work unless the system is designed to be on the bleeding edge (Fedora or Debian). Similarly, Maemo just works in this case. If you stick to the defaults (like extras) then you shouldn't have many problems at all. It's when you start adding repos that you introduce problems.

The iPhone is commonly seen as something that 'just-works' and indeed it's true if your sticking to Apple's rules. But even then not all software you install just works. And if you want to go against what Apple has said (perhaps to install an application that Apple has rejected) then your introducing problems that may or may not cause problems.

So just-works is something each user defines. For myself, my computers go through periods of where things just-works, then periods of things just-not working (my girlfriend gets annoyed at these times), and back to periods of just-working again.

@kingka

seems to me that your problem is not with the device at all, but with the development community... (wish i could quote properly on this thing)

Omega: daperl was saying that you were factually wrong when you wrote the title for the thread. "N810 is totally useless" could be either interpreted literally (which is what daperl did, since you said no one had proved you wrong factually), or it could be interpreted as a hyperbolic statement, in which case, you were just trolling. If you were just trolling, then we could say that nobody has proven you wrong factually because you haven't been writing anything factually.

Stop it! Now!

For Christ's sake! (Or would that be "Christs"?)

As somebody who learned English at school in a German speaking country...
As somebody who still doesn't know when to say "I listend", "I have listend" or "I have been listening"...
As somebody who has to look up at least one word in each paragraph in the dictionary...
As somebody who gets confused at, over and even about prepositions...
As somebody who constantly mixes American, British and wrong spelling within one sentence...

... I can only say: Don't add to the confusion by throwing in mistakes "in protest". How are we supposed to learn this language? Ever?

Why would you be sure? The obvious usually escapes people that are being nonsensical. Happens to me all the time.

You aren't. We can't afford to let non-native speakers become too fluent; that would endanger our world domination.*

*Canadians are the secret rulers of the world, you know

Canadians? Wouldn't that be French and English then in order to endanger your world domination?

I tried to learn French. Really. 4 years. Nothing left. The only thing I can read, understand and answer (by clicking correctly) is:

The problem with your protest is that the exception for some possessive nouns that end with 's' is to put the apostrophe at the end. So, the possessive its would be its' because of the conflict with the contraction. But somebody must have thought that that was stupid so they dropped it.

Or was that too anal for ya?

Well, you'll have to talk to the Quebecois about that. Many of them feel that L'Anglais are suppressing them too, and they've even tried to separate. They almost did, too.

It's ... Its ... Its' ... It is easy for me to forget the Francophones. I live about 3550 kms from Quebec.
