So after my short introduction in the other thread, I'll blow out some things I couldn't yet find a sufficient answer for.

a) easyDebian is 'nice', but being a fellow Gentoo user and prefering portage/emerge, I'd like to now if someone already tried Gentoo on the N900 - either as chroot or complete system.

b) I'd like to have a way to manually toggle the state of the keyboard's LEDs, since it's often turning the illumination on, even if I could perfectly read it without it.

c) regarding email, does someone have a nice&working setup for handling encrypted mails(in my case, that would be gpg)? IMHO claws is pretty unusable with the current UI, modest doesn't seem to have support at all and trojita can't even send mail as of yet.

d) has someone thought about or written a simple UI to cryptsetup? Something like i.e. cryptomaster?

e) where would I have to look, to replace the normal camera mode with blessN900, when opening the shutter?

f) the volume of the mediaplayer(s) via headphones (some Sennheiser's here, don't know the exact model) are very low. Using alsamixer, I can boost it a little, but it's still way lower than my good old Creative Zen Touch. So I'm wondering, is this some kind of EU regulation again and if so, can I do something about it? - with very low, I mean it's not even enough, so that I don't hear the railroad noise when riding the train.

g) I'd like to use shortcutd to open the phone-app via a long press, which basically works, but also opens the camera standby-mode. This is quite ugly, so I'd like to know if this can be circumvented? Short press isn't going to do it, since that may be activated to easily by accident.

h) when in contacts, it's always showing all my contacts or the ones from the simcard. Isn't there a way to only show contacts which have at least one telephonenumer, since I don't want the list to be cluttered up with people from my XMPP accounts.

i) can I somehow bind the sym/ctrl key to open the 'extended keyboard symbols' - don't know another name for it, I mean the one with <>{}[]|... - on a double press?

j) (how) can I delete preinstalled stuff I don't want/need? Being more specific, the games and ovi store?

I know, it's quite a lot, but that's it for now

thanks in advance,
avx

a. Gentoo native for N900 would be nice as multiboot;

b. I would enjoy {hardware keys}/{status bar applet} for modifying brightness of screen and brightness of keyboard light separately.

And being able to modify how the ambient brightness changes screen brightness.

I would like to be able to control brightness precisely, on 255 scale.

c. email seems to be a problem for many people. Would a port of Mobile Thunderbird help you?

e. cl-launcher
http://maemo.org/packages/view/cl-launcher/

j. apt-get purge <something>
Be careful: if you don't want to ruin Maemo 5 installation, you need to have mp-fremantle-generic-pr installed no-matter-what, so you will have to make some deb tricks (like: empty deb package which provides and replaces ovi store and games and cherry)

From that I read, that nobody's done it, yet? Gotta give it a try, once I'm pleased with my setup and made a full backup

Well, there's got to be some kind of treshold somewhere, biggest problem seems to find it :/

Dunno, never been a big fan of Thunderbird, but if it has a more fitting/usable UI than Claws, I might try it - if all breaks, at least mutt should work

Thanks, just what I needed Edit: Doesn't work, nothing's popping up, no matter what I assign and yes, I tried rebooting.

Ok, gotta be careful with this one. It would also be enough, to just have it not displayed in the app-launcher, gotta see how to do this, at least 'categorise' doesn't seem to be able to do it.

a) BTW, I noticed, in some list some apps/widgets are listed twice, that's the case here for widget-selection on the desktop and also showed up while I configured the cl-launcher. Any clue on that?

b) is there a size-limitation - besides the obvious 640x480 for the images used in the startup animation(meaning the dots-thingy going left-right-left)? Alternatively, is it possible to change the background to something of my choosing and not being black?

c) people using proximiyd, aren't you using the phone-app, are you ok with apps starting while your using the telephone or is there some other magic involved to not show it in this situation?

d) is it just me or is advancedpower slowing down boot-up(meaning till the desktop is fully loaded)? Is this just poor coding, ie no asynchronous execution or what's the problem here(did't have time to look at the sources, yet)?

Edit 2:Just wanted to mention, since I found a lot of people also experience this problem:

Installing advancedpower on a completly fresh (rootfs&vanilla) PR1.3 fails, as in the battery icon disappears, doesn't come back after a reboot and also nothing related to battery is in the statusmenu popup.

Although listed in it's dependencies, somehow it doesn't fetch advpow-common.

Intalling 'advanced interface switcher' first, solved the problem for me, since this pulled in advpow-common, which in turn enables a successful and working installation of advancedpower. advanced interface switcher can then be uninstalled, if it's not needed.

Maybe that helps someone

Edit 3:Is there no proper replacement for the normal .Xdefaults(/.xressources)? I find it pretty hard to match my colors to the used theme without being able to define hex/rgb values and the "solution" I found regarding the use of gconf seems to be only temporary.

Use AppLocker to remove icons?

And don't forget not to run out of rootfs space if you are installing every application you need and keeping applications you don't need.

The shortcuts to application are stored in /usr/share/applications/*/

Still got plenty of freespace on rootfs, no worries

As for cl-launcher, not matter what app I define for auto-start, it doesn't work, but the popup dialog is working. Better than nothing, but still something to investigate.

I'll look at your tipps regarding the icons tomorrow, for now it's bedtime

Edit, sadly 'lens cover reminder' and 'cl-launcher' interfere, in that it takes longer to get the popup selection when lcr is installed

K, got rid of the unwanted icons and my 'problem' with shortcutd is also solved - was a simple misunderstanding, in that I'm supposed to keep it semi-pressed for some time.

Sweet, thanks.
Too bad the weekend is over again, so it'll take me a while to start tinkering with it...
