I'm one of the early adopters of this device, and yet mine is still working and I still loving it. More apps more fun
Everything of the first generation of any Nokia devices are BETA, look at the Nokia N95-1 for example. It was a beta and yet it is still the biggest selling point of all N-series. Alot of people still buying and using it. And it is still not outdated after 4years.

VirtualPC from Microsoft is easy to set up but usually screws up Linux installations. Maybe you can try VirtualBox.
