Follow-up from my previous comment.

After uninstalling Gas-Balls, I could edit folder again in ApMeFo. Gas-Balls probably change some part of hildon-home that confused ApMeFo. Maybe file a bug to ApMeFo and let author decides what to do...

Edit: lol there's no bug tracker....

Something wrong with Gas-balls itself. Just removing its .desktop file makes ApMeFo working well.

Has anyone managed to figure out hpw to put folders onto desktop yet? It would be so handy if I could just have a folder with some games in, one with some apps and web links or something, and one with other mis stuff in. This would save cluttering up the desktop, just like apmefo saves on cluttering up the app menu.

Sorry if this is old news or has been answered ages ago. I couldn't find anything else about it& I'm on my lunch here at work

I am waiting for ApMeFo author to return from vacations so he will be able to send me real sources of application so I could improve UI a bit.
I'm curious, what exactly about the ApMeFo UI do you not like / intend to change? I personally like it just fine right now.

2. Just an odd question, but why, when -entering- a category/folder, the graphic is zooming -out-, not in?
This was brought up a few pages back, I just wanted to address it - simply put, this is just how Maemo does things. When you press the top left icon on your desktop to go to the running applications view (or just to the menu if you have no running apps), background zooms out. When you go from running applications to menu, background zooms out again. So when you go from menu to a folder created by ApMeFo, it just does the same thing.

I really don't think this is an issue with the app. In fact, I would love it if it stayed the same by default - though I am a fan of apps giving people choices, but perhaps this might be better addressed through transition customization in themes?

(If you want, you can simply think about it differently - you ARE going 'into' the folder, it's just you're 'looking' backwards, so you drop into the folder back-first, and thus the background, outside the folder, zooms out.)

Make it more finger friendly, drop usage of non standard font sizes. re-arrange some elements.

What would you rearrange? Also, is there anything other than the ^ and (down arrow button) and the + - buttons that you consider not finger friendly?

What a pity! After updating PyQt4 (4.7.5) this ApMeFo and many other apps stopped working. Is it casuality? I tried the code at the begining of this thread (python /opt/ApMeFo/Main.py) and I got a message error related to an API v7 when requested v8 (sorry, I'm too ignorant about this ...). I'm really inloved with this ApMeFo app. Hope it works soon again!!!

  • Horizontal tab bar translates poorly to mobile applications, especially in landscape view. If a tab bar is really necessary (it's not), it should at least be vertical
  • [Text Box] [Select] is fairly awkward for choosing whether to edit or create a new folder.
  • [Text Box] [Select] is really awkward for choosing an icon. It's unlikely I'll be able to choose an icon by just typing in a name, even if I'm going off of memory. And using text to describe the icon takes up more space than just showing the icon.
  • [Text Box] [Select] is really awkward for choosing a folder to delete, because I can't even use the text box.
  • Selecting an icon is somewhat difficult, due to the large number of icons to choose from. A grid of icons would be preferable to icon - name list
  • Having separate buttons to actually create/edit/delete/update folders after already selecting a folder to create/edit/delete/update is redundant. If the UI is intuitive, there shouldn't be any need to confirm that I actually want to do what I was trying to do. (As for preventing accidental deletion, that would be better served by a popup warning if the selected folder contains apps)
  • When choosing applications to add to a folder, applications that have already been added to the folder are not filtered

My general idea for reorganizing the app would be merging the Create, Delete, and Add App tabs into a single listview. + and - buttons on one side for adding/deleting folders from the list. 3 columns on the list, with Icon, Name, and # of Apps. Tapping a row in the list would allow editing the selected column for that folder. Once the app is considered stable enough, the activate/deactivate can be removed entirely (or activated by default and moved to the app menu).

Edit: Oh, and one more thing. I'd recommend using the existing hildon.menu as a starting point for the layout. If I have already spent time reorganizing the menu without using folders, and just try to use ApMeFo to stick a few unwanted icons into another folder, I'll find that all of my other applications have been reordered, while I would expect the current order to be unaffected.
