Or have i got this wrong about the release coming soon?.

Meego in the form of Meego 1.1 has already been released, the next version due in April is Meego 1.2 but I think it has been clear for some time that we would have to wait for Meego 1.3 before anything remotely useable was released.

However the DE teaminvolvement may now accelarate matters and so we may have something usealbe to download within another 3 months, rather than having to wait another 6 months for 1.3?

WOW i really really hope your right on your assumptions and i am sure every single N900 owner is waiting very eagerly for this to happen.

Been a LONG time since we had anything publicly for our device so am sooo looking forward to this.

Many thanks indeed for all the information.

This is the first time i installed Meego so excitements aside, you should have known most of these.
Ok. RC2 really didn't feel that great. I used a 2 gb card and its not even class 6.
But the UI and the touch response was awesome. UI looked cool.
I believe thats the only best part as of now.

Here are things that i observed
1. UI is cool
2. The fast response. If i can get that response on a SD, i cant imagine meego rocking when installed on emmc
3. email client seemed to be improved though theres not a lot of UI in there
4. The notification bar needs work (as in it wasnt looking nice when dropped down)
5. Wifi was perfect. i was able to connect to a secured network without problem
6. system did not recognize my mobile network . So couldnt test SMS and phone functionality
7. Camera app opened. When i clicked capture, it crashed
8. Music app was fine. But the sounde levels seemed too low
9. Photo app crashed
10. Social network (facebook) wasnt registering. couldnt see password section for facebook
11. Phonesim app wasnt doing anything. Dont know what it was though
12. Both browsers need work. I wish MicroB was used. Fennec is too darn slow
13. Inhouse videos werent playing with the flow. It was stuttering. May be its with the slow sd card. But one video wasnt even giving the right colors. All i saw was video playing with light blue shade.
14. Mulittasking was good.
15. Lock screen was pretty simple/
Pretty much it. May be the stable version would fix most of them.
Though there are a list of negatives posted here, it was just to make sure the team is aware of the glitches if community missed mentioning any. Sorry for the long mail.

Will wait until April 28 for the stable release... Untill then Maemo is the way to gooooo

you forgot on importabt thing!
The screen can never be turned off. So it's on all the time and whether you locked the screen or pressed power buttons, it will not turn off.

I think it's never be usable if your phone LCD always on all the time.

You are right maxximuscool. Though i never noticed it. I checked it now. How can i turn it off????
And ya one more thing. The Battery meter always show it as if battery is over. Battery is always with a red dot (like it is almost at the end of charge) though fully charged. This needs fixed as well. Charging icon seems to work fine though.

Edit: Ok My mistake. its just taking time to display the correct charge. So Battery charge is fine.

echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/omapfb/graphics/fb0/blank

and of course do not forget to disable touchscreen ! (but it is only in software )

xinput set-prop "TSC2005 touchscreen" 137 0

They are currently working on Power management issues. It is expected to be fixed by June. So hang in there. I dint expect it to this usable.
