I really hope something positive comes of this. The Microsoft Nokia contract still has 3 years and 8 months left on it.

Maybe it was already touched but on what basis is TMO standing?
Financially and technically?
Is this something that can be also cut by Microsoft/Nokia?

The sad truths are actually coming out in many of the posts on this thread simply because people are just not that stupid not to realise what has happened and about to happen BUT not many actually know the full truth so i will attempt to tell as much as i can.......

Back in 2007 Nokia's problems really started to happen but it was a slow but sure decline and here are some of the answers ok.

Nokia had well and truly planned everything out but what they did not reckon on was the slow loss of software engineers being sucked out to other main line developers with higher rates of pay and better working conditions etc.

Things were slowly going downhill but progressivley getting worse and even though they knew software development was being hit harder as the months went by, plans that had been put in place were slowly going downhill as key engineers left leaving Nokia in a very awkward position and it was just too late to even think about pulling the plug at that moment in time as efforts to pull it together were slowly disintegrating.

By the time the N900 was released it was already the beginning of the end but the board had not at that point decided what to do about the devastating failures that were occurring.

Now if you remember Maemo got off to a very poor start as it was released far from being anything like a completed OS and had as we all found out many flaws,(there were many inside arguments going on over this because of losses of critical Maemo engineers) hence why it never ever got completed because at that point the brains had already left leaving Nokia with a skeleton crew left to deal with the aftermath of releasing what should have been Nokia's turning point for the good and the reason why all the NOFIX's were never fixed ! and the start of the beginning of the end.

OK now we are at the point that the vast amount of people never knew the truth (staff inc)and were living in pure hope that Nokia would pull it all together, this never happened as we all know and the rest is elementary as the complete and utter shambles by Nokia regarding Maemo and Meego can be realised on this very forum.

I am actually cutting a very long and tedious story short here for more than one reason as i am still sworn to secrecy in certain area's (that might change in the future when i will be able to let the cat out the bag complete and release some sad and somewhat shocking news !!).

There is in fact a handful of people as members of this forum that know what i am talking about in full but i cannot divulge who so don't even try to get me too at this point ok.

Here are some of the actual facts in the downfall of what could have been.

There were many meetings going on including more or less full board but sadly no answers ever came forward that could actually save the Nokia we all knew hence the reason that the Nokia stakeholders wanted to make sure they basically don't lose there cash putting it bluntly.

The plan of action took time as there were many many fierce at times arguments going on within Nokia at high level simple because it was failing and the pace was quickening much faster than anyone liked.

What you are all seeing now is nothing short of a save my asss situation going on in that it is all revolving around horrendous amounts of money and people basically getting there stake out of Nokia and getting out as quick and as safe as possible.

Here are some of the sad truths that people who have studied the whole situation actually already see......

Forget Meamo Meego and EVERYTHING else Nokia was working on as it is never going to happen from the company we all know as Nokia.

Elop was brought in as a very planned move but it was kept a very hidden secret only known to the people who paid him to get there money out of the company.

His actions are slow and very planned as to make sure assets are not lost making sure everyone gets out without severe loss.

What you are seeing and witnessing before your very eyes is the end of everything we all struggle/d to keep alive and what this community does about it i really have no idea.

The end result is very clear and many on here already know it, that is the Microsoft/Nokia merger.

What is going to be left will be dominated obviously and entirely by Microsoft, you should all now know the sad ending.

There are MANY facts and names i cannot divulge here and i don't really have to as i said before people are not stupid and its only a matter of time before even the biggest fool can see clearly what happens as it all unfolds.

Now i have one clear point to make and this is for every single member of this community to consider.......

What role can this community take for every single owner of all the devices that will be left stranded? as we are talking EVERYTHING will be abandoned apart from the obvious Microsoft future goals.

Linux ???? oh please do me a favour, don't even go there because no way it will ever be anything much more than it is now unless a serious and i mean SERIOUS effort is made by a community like this one (and i don't say that lightly because this is one hell of a community !!!) and some serious leadership is put in force for the progression of everything that Nokia strived for and could not finish.

OK this is a long post and i don't intend on going any deeper than i have, so you can all make your own minds as to how you take all this as most have already got the whole thing sussed out.

Try realising that this IS the right time for a COMMUNITY that pulls together if that is at all possible depending on its leadership's and for everyone to just stop any arguments regarding the members of this community, there are still a hell of a lot of brains on here that can pull this off and bring back the brains that have already left slowly but surely by watching a team that actually work together (is this really possible i wonder???).

The Nokia dream ended way back and it is sadly clear to see, the news of 10,000 staff losses are not being taken lightly internally i can assure you but sadly to say there is sod all anyone can and will do about it within Nokia.

This is indeed the end of Nokia as we all know.

One final comment here... Elop is doing his job flawlessly and so efficient he was without doubt the man for the job..... of disbanding the Nokia we all know.

It could all be under a different umbrella, under new ownership, branding, etc, etc, etc. Who knows. But there are a few things we do know: 2007 and the iPhone changed it all (it's all been said before, and we all understand the enormous shift in the mobile universe when that thing came along). Nokia didn't respond, it just got its head a little more comfortable way down there in the sand, churning out half-assed devices like the N97, E75 etc. Again, ground that has been fully raked in the past. Then Elop comes along and puts the bullet in Maemo and Symbian. DONE. It's all done at that point, what's left is a slow death, what we're experiencing in the community right now.
But...

even though it might now, sadly, be a matter of months before Nokia is done, we have [our N900s and] our N9s. And I for one will be swiping over that curved screen for months to come, happily swiping left and right, up and down, knowing updates are finished, but also appreciating that I'm part of a great community, with more passion for Nokia's products than even some Nokians, and until my N9 finally dies and I can't buy a replacement, I will be happy that I'm still using the best phone I've ever used.

Nokia might go, and that might be what was always going to happen no matter who was in charge. But nevermind the might haves, the could haves, the what ifs. We know that the N900 and the N9 are their best work.

And we have them.

Happy weekend everyone. Don't go rushing out to buy any boring Android black slabs this weekend
If I could hit the thanks button 1000 times I would. I too own both the N900 and N9 both fully functional. Next year I am going to buy a new cell but I will keep these two for years and years just to remember what a small team of people in Nokia and an amazing community can do.

Why bother speculating? The important thing is if they will be able to deliver cool devices.
