Nokia is not pushing the n900 like the iphone, the iphone is really dumbed down for ignorant people (as well as uber geeks I guess), whereas the n900 is really geared toward users who want a root shell. I dont think we will ever see the n900 marketed like the iPhones. It's just not the same type of device.

regardless of if it's for idiots, people know what the iphone is. Only 2 people out of 50 people I asked in my circle of friends knew what the N900 was. That's kind of sad, and many are generally tech savvy.

Ok, just called Nokia UK.

I gave the guy an earful saying I was originally told the 9th Nov, then I was told it had moved to the 19th Nov and I am still waiting with no money having come out of my bank account.

I asked what the story was and he said the ship date had now moved to the 23rd Nov and that was a 'tentative' date. I expressed my absolute disbelief that there has been no communication from Nokia and that I had never come across an online retailer with such poor customer service and suggested he feed this back to management. He said he had received a lot of similar feedback and will feed mine back also.

I then asked if the 23rd Nov would be the arrival date, date of departure from their warehouse or from their factory and he had no information.

Before you think i'm just another whinger, think about other companies that allow you to buy products online. For most of these companies, the customer is king and communication is key. Nokia totally fail to get this and are doing themselves a massive disservice in terms PR and reputation. We are the earlier adopters and should be singing Nokia's praises not seething with frustration.

Having such a massive gap between their press release and the actual arrival of the hardware just make them look like amateurs.

yes, it is shame that a thread with good reason has changed to something that only makes people angry/frustrated.

People are angry/frustrated by Nokia's behaviour. You're angry/frustrated because people aren't prepared to sit quietly and say "Thank you Sir, may I have another?" everytime Nokia issues a misleading and confusing press release.

"Dear Customer

We’re sorry to again advise you that the N900 has been delayed. There is however good news - Nokia have advised that we will receive stock into our Nokia Retail stores to allow us to dispatch your N900 on the 3rd December. Please accept our sincere apologies for this further delay which is out of our control, and be assured that you are on a priority list for dispatch of a Nokia N900 as soon as it becomes available.

Nokia Retail stores and Nokia online are the only place that the N900 is currently available on a pay monthly contract. For more details of the Nokia N900 please visit our new Nokia Retail website www.nokiaretail.co.uk

If you would like to discuss your pending order please email us at webshop@nokiaretail.co.uk.

Compare Nokia's sorry mess with the clarity, precision and reliability of the "Pricing and Availability" section of the Motorola Droid Press Release:

DROID by Motorola will be available in the United States exclusively at Verizon Wireless Communications Stores and online on Friday, Nov. 6, for $199.99
