No change... still getting cert error and receiving lockups. Foreground notification works, but background notification is still not working.

Oh, and messages are not marked read on the server after reviewing them in modest

Ok, I need some advice here,

Is it turning out that people are noticing a difference between clean installs and upgrading? What is the recommendation to install the latest version of modest (or other beta software).

In my experience, upgrades are usually stable when it's a final release, but because this is beta there is usually a more cautious approach needed to use the software. Should I do a complete uninstall or do we feel the upgrade is just as effective?

Last thing, is there a changelog or something I can look at to see what bugs are fixed or features are added to the latest version? I couldn't find anything on the modest garage site, is this information publicly available elsewhere?

I've had no trouble upgrading.
The release notes appear when you upgrade :-D

At this time I have found no significant difference between upgrading and uninstall/reinstall.

just made a couple of bug reports.

1. modest seems to forget that a mail have been deleted locally. as in, i download mails, go offline, delete mails, close down and start modest up again, and the mails are right back in the inbox, with me being offline the whole time.

2. even with a headers only setting it download the whole mails. this is on a pop server, but i know the option is supported so...

i have found that to work correctly , you need to have the EXACT same info entered into the built in client , set the auto retrieve time the same as in modest , but..LEAVE AUTO RETRIEVE DISABLED on the built in client... ALL info on both apps has to be the same

I have done as you have suggested; only time will tell if it is "the magic" I've been looking for.

I shut down, sent myself a message, restarted, and waited for a new message notice (the webmail notifier told me immediately that there was a new message). I got the notice a minute or three later, read it, closed the e-mail, sent myself another e-mail, got the notice, opened the e-mail... so now I really just have to wait to see if I get any more errors.

I think I've found the problem with messages getting marked "read" or not:

When I opened an e-mail from the notification box (bottom left of the screen), everything opened correctly, but the message was not marked "read" anywhere else. When I read messages in the Modest app itself, the e-mails are properly marked "read" everywhere.

i didnt mention that.... but i have noticed that problem as well. im still getting something thats making it lock up occasionally... and i have to killall in xterm. tryin to figure out a pattern of when its doing it...thinking it might be related to my desktop crashing and all my applets and such going away.
