No. For building the kernel you just need an ARM gcc to cross compile it. I normally do:

$ cd <kernel_src_dir>
$ make CROSS_COMPILE=<path_to_cross_gcc>/bin/gcc ARCH=arm menuconfig
$ make CROSS_COMPILE= <path_to_cross_gcc>/bin/gcc ARCH=arm

I look forward to further improvements. It's very impressive so far.
Unless someone have a better solution I see that the Android OpenMoko guys have a software keyboard for theirs phones, they recently post it for inclusion on upstream Android but was rejected as Google is working on a complete input framework that will be released 4Q2008 or 1Q2009.

Will take a look to the OpenMoko work and if it can be integrated into NITdroid for N700/N800 use.

Umm, Solca, can you take a look at these patches:

Looks like a guy added an onscreen keyboard to all activities, can we get it in our userspace?

<booming voice>And the OS God looked down upon the tablet and said, "I shall port Android to thee in four days!" And it was so. On the fifth day, audio roamed freely across the speakers. The OS God was pleased.</booming voice>

Truly awe inspiring from all of you.
