It's possible that in some countries MMS is really a pain in the ***, I just know that in france and belgium it appears to work relatively well. It's maybe country specific. Btw the thing is some people need MMS, I think it's important for nokia to implement that function 'cause it's a shame for a flagship phone to not implement such a thing, but I agree that it's even more important to resolve others pending bugs more critical. Which seems to be the case, I haven't heard of the presence of MMS in PR1.1.
Moreover I've seen on the forum, don't remember where maybe in this thread, that a developer achieved to get and send MMS on its N900 with a python script (filename is fmms.zip)

So you are forced to set your email to come up like texts? What if you use texts/MMS for messages you want immediately and email for messages to read at your leisure?

mulf you can do what you want.. thats the beauty of it all..

emails can act like sms.

but for most of us- we have a few email accounts- we have work accounts we have personal accounts.

so to answer your question you could ahve a seperate personal account if you so wished..

email is growing on the mobile market, mms is dieing- yes you want it- and yes you should have it.

point is you cant have it on this phone at the mo.

if you want to send a pic there are other ways. many many other ways

At the mo? The moment? You do not use SMS/MSS and yet you can't type out the full word? Who is the ***** here?

Another personal, and therefore meaningless, data point.

I personally handle about 500 emails daily, in batches. It's mostly open source stuff, and some to do with paid work. That's 15,000 emails each month. I also use IMs a fair amount for work conversations.

Yet I have <1 social email a month typically, and hardly ever use IMs socially.

My non-face-to-face social communications are about 10 SMSs daily, a couple of voice calls, reading other people's occasional Facebook and Livejournal updates, and about 1 MMS/month. I rarely write on any of the social networking sites; I prefer talking, and meeting people in person.

I do social IMs less than once a month - I don't bother with it any more. I used to IM much more, but I got bored and tired of it. Now IMs are mainly used for work only.

So socially, my communication mix is, most to least, SMS, voice, FB/LJ, MMS, and IM and email at the bottom. This despite being an experienced email and IM user for non-social communications, and having used both email and IMs more in the past socially.

In other words, this data point is someone who uses email and IM extensively, which makes a do-everything phone appropriate, yet still has practical needs to use MMS occasionally. Currently I carry the N900 and another cheap phone, which is silly.

I can't think of any way other than MMS to send a pic to my mother the same day it's taken. She has a basic phone, no internet access at home, and no library in her village.

What are these "many, many" other ways I can use to send a pic to my mother in near real time?

jjx lol i just posted a way. just read.- and no i diodnt specifically say there were other ways to send your specific mother an email- my posts are not geared to you...

net based solotions are what nokia actually marketed itself with- and yep its true you can browse to play flash games(hopefully the next browser will be more effecient)- and you can MMS OF THE NET

and if you use mms so much and its such a priority- why did you buy a phone that doesnt have the function, or didnt even look into a net based soloution

the great thing about this phone over others is that you can leave IM running and just use it like you would a txt- its even in the same conv widget..

its email needs sorting out mind- its not even close to being adequate yet..it works ok with exchange, but a few issues.. and overall i still have to carry my iphone about- not because of mms(why???), mind
