I guess, this M$ decision was made in a big hurry...

No matter what, as long they did not proof to be worthy of trusting in their future support on their devices then I'm not keen to risk like the N900.

I don't see nokia will ever take MeeGo seriously unless some other company like Samsung and HTC jump into MeeGO as their 3rd and 4th OS. For me I don't think I would buy the N950, because I don't want a device that end up has no apps and no supports. Apps and long term support is the key toward buying the right device. Without apps then there will be no future, without developers there will be nothing left.

I am repeating myself, but for those reasons I think it is crucial Nokia's first Meego device should have Dalvik VM so people could immediately have applications over the critical limit and it would lure developers and users from the Android-league.

I know some Qt-developers do not want this to happen, because they are afraid of competition, but I think it is only way Meego would succeed.

I am somehow surprised to see people comparing N900 with Android devices.
It is obvious that due to tons of people developping for Android, the system is now well established with fluid interface, lots of application and so lots of functionalities.
Google is paying attention to satisfy customers to keep them and to earn money from them.
How come a N900 with almost no Nokia support, a limited user base (probably a million device sold) and no future could compete with Android....!!!

If people wants apps, lots of functionalities, lots of upgrades, then Android is probably the best choice currently.

I personally prefer the N900 not so much for tons of functionalities (but it can do what I want) but because I can play around with tons of hacks (to personalise the device or adding functionalities), because I use it as I am using my computer (I understand better how it works), because there is a nice community (see CSSU as a nice example for that), because it is different from my friends , because it is Linux, because I give then less data to Google, because it is enough fluid for me (with some boost from overclocking and transitions.ini) ...

So if the Meego device offers the same and more - more hardware capabilities, more developpers (one could hope!) -, I will again be attracted. But I will pay a lot of attention to the first reviews and tests

My wife has a HTC desire HD and I have played with it quite a lot. But I did not like too much (admitedly my wife has left the stock rom so it could be probably improved). Apart from some nice apps, I much better appreciate my N900

@Danramos:

The N900 can do things that the other phones cant do at the moment. Few androids can dual boot, even triple boot like the n900 (meego, maemo, android), also you can install ubuntu,windows....etc
Also it OS is 99 % open source...android its not comparable to maemo, android itd an OS for the common people, but with details and suppor for developers, but maemo its fully for developers. you cant compare android and maemo, never.

Nokia Offers Financial Bonus to Keep MeeGo Developers on Track with N950

http://www.nokiausers.net/General/No...with-N950.html

"Local Finnish website taloussanomat.fi is reporting that Nokia have offered their MeeGo development teams a 50% bonus to keep working on the MeeGo platform, at least until the upcoming Nokia N950 is launched. The following is via Google Translate..

Nokia's new 50 percent bonus offer would replace the current bonus system, in which the employee receives a half years salary, up to two months' salary. Under that system, MeeGo developer should therefore pay 0-33 per cent bonus.

The new 50 percent bonus on the accumulation start the beginning of March, ie from Tuesday to yesterday. Fear Nokian MeeGo-skilled group was born in exile in mid-February, when the company announced that the mobile phones will use Symbian and MeeGo operating systems instead of Microsoft's Windows operating system Phone 7.

Nokia has promised to publish this year MeeGo one operating system to use the phone, whose name is apparently N950.

Nokia has not been told what tasks to developers there will be after the peak the phone is ready. Nokia President and CEO Stephen Elop the Intel jointly developed with Nokia MeeGo is primarily a research project in the future.

Microsoft, the Alliance is expected to bring thousands of fired up Symbian and MeeGo-talent, because the software will focus on increasing the U.S. to Microsoft and Windows Phone 7 environment."

That's a really bad news for Nokia's MeeGo strategy.

You simply can't buy open minds...

Wow. You'd think that they would be happy to stay there since the need is still present... at the moment.

Not looking good at all.

I don't know about 1 and 4, but 2 is a near on certainty for the rootfs size. I'd expect Nokia to include a tad more actual RAM as well.

Number 3 is unrelated to MeeGo or the N950. Talk to the devs of that system sir :-)

The other thread was just a matter of searching for N950, not a very common string.
