MisterSorin:

Copy the file that you download to your MyDocs folder (this shows as the "Nokia N900" device when plugged into a PC by USB), and then run the image installer that came with Easy Debian. It will find the file, check it for errors, and then decompress it.

PS: Get a wireless router. What's the point of an N900 without an Internet connection?

do I have to decompress it in windows or in n900 ? Sorry I'm a noob. If I have to decompress it, I have to place it in documents in n900 ?

Don't decompress it, like I said, the installer will do that.

Close Debian (/usr/share/applications/hildon/closechroot.desktop) seems to be wrong.

What it does is: sudo closechroot /debian

while it should do: sudo closechroot /.debian

Metalov: Yes, I know. This is explained a few posts above.

This will not cause a problem in new installs, because I have changed this in the ~/.chroot config file, but it will cause a problem for users updating from previous versions, because it doesn't update previously installed .chroot files.

As a workaround, change the "CHROOT=/debian" line to "CHROOT=/.debian" in your /home/user/.chroot file.
I have uploaded a fixed version to Extras-devel, but I don't dare move it to Extras-testing because that will reset my 10-day quarantine period. So when the current Extras-testing version is promoted to Extras in the next day or two, I will immediately promote a fixed version to Extras-testing so we can go through the whole process again.

(EDIT: My fixed version will have a proper bugzilla field, since that seems to stress out the tester "archebyte" to no end)

EDIT2: Ah, you are reporting a different, but related error. I have fixed that one too in the new Extras-devel version.

I tried to install easy-deb-chroot_0.9.36 but I get an error message with unable to install easy-deb-chroot application packages missing bzip2 wget. Are there alternatives to install debian on n900 ? maybe some commands in xterminal ?

try open the terminal and type

Code:
sudo getroot
apt-get install bzip2 wget
if getroot leaves an error message you need to install rootsh from the application manager, if bzip2 and wget installation leaves an error there is something wrong with your application manager

EDIT:
oh i forgot, if all goes well, install easy debian afterwords

MisterSorin: Yes, there are alternatives. Get an Internet connection and download from the repositories!

If you insist on downloading the packages from another computer and installing via dpkg -i, you will also have to install the bzip2 and wget packages to your N900 as well.

I thing it is sudo gainroot not getroot, after I type apt-get install bzip2 wget it says package bzip2 not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or E: package bzip 2 has no installation candidate. What does this mean ? is my n900 broken or what ?
