young people want social networking apps..

they will all have phones geared to these sites- they will be posting up countless pics straight to the net each and every day.

people are using IM on there phones more and more each day

people are emailing more and more each and every day

if you dont believe this fact and that mms will die then i suppose i cant change your backwards views.

but trust me sms and mms will be redundant.. its all about being connected .

i suppose one of the reasons you havent yet used such functionality on a phone- is simply because this is your first ever phone that has the function(YOU SIMPLY COULDNT DO IT)- alot of us have had smart phones and been doing it for years on years- and know with the masses and the iphone 12 yr old kids and 80 yr old grannies are doing it..

also its really great to be 'connected'(skype/im) you can have your status up- 'i am driving', i am in a meeting etc etc , you can turn on and off functions. text and phone are not the same.

There is no such thing as 'instant' SMS or MMS, it still has to travel through the cellular network/SMSCs just like a 'regular' email has to travel through mail servers and the internet. Congestion can make this very evident, esp on holidays - smaller/less equipped providers are especially susceptible to this. It works because people in cellular networks pay attention, not because SMS or MMS itself is something more reliable than SMTP/POP.

Because of all the other things I do use it for, obviously. Neither the iPhone nor Android were suitable, though Android is getter closer.

Unfortunately right now the IM contact-deleting UI issues make it too risky for my business critical IM contacts, and the big-mixed-up-list UI issues need improvement too. I might use Pidgin for this. I like the idea of merged contacts but it's just too messy and basic right now.

The conversation screens are a lovely idea, but again a bit basic in the presentation department right now.

Ironically I do handle large volumes of mail with it just fine
But that may be because I don't use the built-in app.

well when you are used to a blackberry/iphone or an htc hero you wouldnt say the same, for email.

btw i am not sure why an iphone wouldnt be suitable for you- what do u need it to do that an iphone cannot.

I prefer the binary status system. Either "I'm at home", or "I'm not at home, please rob me".

i have no probs nokia sorting out the mms- but if they sort out the mms- b4 fixing the email client, the power save problems, the potrait stuff, the gps- i will not be happy
Oh buuhuuhuu. Yes I will be quite upset also, but at least IŽam not puzzled for people having different kind of needs that are as important to them as your needs to you. You say that you have no problems with Nokia sorting out MMS, but you keep telling here to people that they have bought wrong phone and instead of that you tell them what should be their primarily demand and concern. Looks like me that you have some kind of problem?

Right now you are on mission to convince people who want MMS are wrong kind of people for this phone. WTF seriously? Leave it alone. As you said you should not have any problem with that. You are not the Judge Dredd who makes calls about what will prevail and what will perish. It's the community and public demand who will decide. Trying to tell other people how they should communicate is just arrogant and plain stupid.

WhatŽs your point here? You keep telling that MMS is dying? 1-2 years or maybe 2-3 years or maybe 4-5 years and globally? Gotta be kidding because who knows if Europe and U.S.A. might not be tomorrows biggest market area :| Who knows what is going to happen? Probably you? Got some data/research besides your family and friends? Why not call to your countries statistics center and tell them that you know everything already and from you everything can be extrapolated. That would save a lot of money. This is just about you and you and you. I feel pity for your girlfriend and friends who have to listen to you daily :|

Market has been dispersed a lot and elder people who right now have gotten used to read&send MMS might not learn any new communication ways for next 5 years so why not try to support as wide rage of users as possible? You canŽt by force try to make users learn new ways.

And in the end you might be right but you fail at communicating and understanding other people. This is getting really sad and IŽam wondering if this some kind of Apple made condition :|

mulf your crazy lol..

like your close friends dont know when you are at work.. they can still rob you dude. random people cant access your staus you know. well they could but they could just as easy just wait for you to go to work an all.

you dont have to tell everything- you can tell em you are busy or available as wel!!!! or to obvious.. lol

slender wow that was a long post.sadly i dont know what it meant- could you try and explain it in a slightly longer more boring way please.

the reality is simple- the nokia doesnt have mms, get over it!

it never said it did. BUT it said many other things which it slightly fails at- NOKIA SORT THAT OUT FIRST.

you dont like nokias stance(that is simply that they want the users of this phone to be going the updated route- web based - allways on line method)- well dont buy a nokia then.

and btw when have i ever asked for nokia to cater a phone for me- all i say is give me first what you promised US ALL when we bought the N900- give me the full flash browser that WORKS give me the decent email app, give me a phone that is stable!!!!!, give me a decent gps spftwore FIRST. give me what it said on the tin- then add whatever functions you want to improve our experience.

MMS WAS NEVER PROMISED
