Also, Russia is not doing so well financially due the two-way sanctions and structural issues in markets.

Finnish law only allows collection of money for charity and even then you need a permission from the police. Politicians are planning to change the law to allow crowdfunding but it remains to be seen when it happens.

Jolla is working on an OS update for the phone and the tablet.
And we all hope it won't be the last update.
But right now more tablets cannot be shipped. But it still remains high on the agenda.

No. Why should they? All the design work is finished.

In order to distribute the tablets right now, all Jolla needs to do is purchase them. In order to purchase the tablets, Jolla needs money. In order to get money, Jolla needs more investment.

Basically, if Jolla can survive a little while longer (which is looking pretty good), and they can find an investor (which I have no clue about), tablets are still possible...

Thinking more about it...

Sailfish OS might have better chance in community's hands than Maemo did. It's designed to run on standard Android-compatible HW and community ported versions for non-Jolla HW already exist, which was not the case with Maemo. Mentioned in community meeting was that they should have enough time to open some of the closed parts if the board/investors allow it and they should have enough time to closing the funding round, should it succeed in December.

So, either way I'm not giving up hope (or going to apple-store) just yet.

I'm not so sure he has the necessary skills to pull it off

He probably has enough from taking down Nokia for Ballmer. So he'd probably want to double down on the tears of Jolla fans on top of the tears he got from the Nokia and Maemo fans.

Elop for Jolla president.
