That would be the ideal method, at least for me. The only problem I can see is that you will need to set your accounts again, and that you will lose your downloaded/sent e-mails.

That's what those instructions are telling you to do. The problem is that you can't just "apt-get remove modest" because it doesn't remove some of the other libraries. And if you only uninstall and then downgrade the modest package itself, you will probably still keep having some of the problems you were having before. I found that the only way to completely uninstall the modest packages, then install an older version, was to follow those instructions.

Yes, you can use those instructions, you'll just have to choose the version you want to downgrade to. The easy way to find the right files to downgrade to is look at the dates on the .debs, they will all be the same date for a single release.

EDIT: I just noticed that the date is the same (11-Apr-2008) for the last two releases, 15 & 16. So it will be a bit trickier. Go for the files with the date-time of 11-Apr-2008 20:07 for W15.

same here- after upgrading even pop3 with gmailndies not work.

it seems each alternate upgrade Modest fixes a few bugs and introduces a few new and silly ones. this has been happening for the last 3-4 upgrades.

and I am surprised to hear Modest will be default client on Diablo !
Now I understand whats holding up Diablo, if this is indeed the case.

Modest was working really well for me until this last update so hopefully its fixed soon . I am disappointed a little but then as always with a Maemo I like it so much and it generally works so well I forget for the most part I am working with early Beta software.

Yea I realized that too, which is why I felt like w14 was the better downgrade (for me) since everything was working great with that beta release.

I don't even want to get into a discussion as to why w15's release is 17 minutes later than w16's.

From the command line run this command:

Code:
gconftool --recursive-unset /apps/modest
That should get rid of all your account setup information. Removing ".modest" from your home directory and any SD cards it might be on (it is on /media/mmc1 for me) should get rid of all traces.

Can't even read or send any emails now with modest. And no fix yet to fix what was a working app thill the updrage ?
Can believe this.

Each upgrade, something breaks, and I think I will go back to a stable Claws app. Its onlt the finger friendliness of Modest and its clear interface that makes me stay on. Otherwise I see a lot of pain these days with these upgrades.

And I rely on my NIT for emails.
