2. I've got a really mind-blowing mixture in "Albums" because of the large amount of albums, folders etc...
3. Items w/o Album tag could be grouped in "No album" group, e.g.
So my main point is that separated FS and ID tags is more user friendly...
I'm going to revive the previous way. So you will have "Folders" (FS-based), "Albums" (tag-based), "Artists" (tag-based) in the music viewer.
Some people requested for tag based browsing, so MediaBox will have both.

I'm currently fixing some rendering distortions. The image stuff will be done soon.

It wasn't a big change (just an extra line in the MIME types mapping), but it's a nice feature:

rev 632 can now play DVD images on your Linux box (not on the tablets, because DVD decoding is too heavy for them).
An image file of a video DVD can be created like this:
Code:
dd if=/dev/dvd of=KillBill1.dvd
The disc images are treated as videos and get thumbnail previews as well.
mplayer must have the appropriate extensions installed for decoding DVDs, though.

In the past two releases I am noticing that the performance problem has come back. The scrolling almost grinds to a halt at times. Anybody else notice this ?

Does this always happen when opening the onscreen-keyboard. If yes, then this is a known problem, and I'm working on an alternative to the broken Nokia onscreen keyboard for MediaBox.

In the last few updates including 632, I've noticed the audio from the internet radio sounds somewhat garble after a few hours of continue use.

Media Box is still having a problem connecting to the wifi if I am off line. First it displays an error box then it connects to the wifi but I must reslect the feed I wanted. A total of three clicks compared to one click if I was using Media Player.

It is intermittent, so this is most likely the reason - I do remember accidentally pulling up the keyboard - so that must have done it. I have to say that there still seem to be performance issues. For example the pull up menu is sluggish most of the time. But I do realize that this is just a SVN release - I am still testing !!

In general I would say that if putting any feature in cause a performance hit, I would say don't listen to me / us . Having a fast application is still the biggest priority in my opinion

If I might be allowed to chime in, here.. I feel compelled to explain that when I first tried MediaBox a very long time ago, now, I didn't much like it. I hadn't used it again for all that time since it had first come out until just a few days ago. I must say, it's improved a lot.

It's now fast, very fast.. it scans very quickly and I love that I can limit its paths for scanning for whatever type of media I want it to scan for. It doesn't scan EVERYTHING--just the paths I've given, much like a more lightweight Canola. It feels fluid--moving from one operation to the next without any unattractive delays. This is pretty important in a media application. It does its job well and provides an excellent balance between function and attractiveness. It also seems to do a better job of handling podcasts than most other media applications--it feels as if podcasts are classified differently in this application. I haven't tried putting music on my N800 again and tried to see if the music ends up getting intermingled in a mess with podcasts.

Please keep up the excellent work! I'll play with it more and come back to give my impression. So far, it's a good one from someone that jumped back into this app after a very long departure.

I am noticing something strange in the music player and I am curious to know whether this is by design . Here is what I am doing

1. Go to music player mode - I have the scrolling album list in the middle - I have not selected anything yet.

2. Go to Track view . Now I have blank in the middle and scrolling albums on the left. This is new (to me at least) ! And was this something we talked about before ?

3. I select an album on the left . I noticed that I have to tap twice for something to happen.

4. Once I select an album, the cover-art comes in the middle, and a *random track* starts playing.

5. I can still control the tracks by left and right arrows, keeping in mind that it started somewhere in the middle of the album to begin with. Albums are still scrolling on the left.

6. I switch to browser mode, and I have only the tracks of the playing album scrolling. No other albums are shown. So far so good.

7. If I switch back to Track view, the albums are gone, and I now have the tracks scrolling on the left.

8. If I now switch back to browser view, I still have only the tracks of that one album scrolling. So now I am locked out of the rest of my collection. I had to restart to get it back.

Is this the result of something you were trying ? If yes, it is quite interesting, except for the problems I mentioned. It also kind of turns the whole browsing upside down ( the browser is for one album only ) - but honestly I like it

This is not the final result. Just some buggy state inbetween.

Welcome back!
I'm sure you'll like the upcoming release 0.96.
