Ok, i disable it. So if i want to enable SSL...you mentioned i have to have some special files for the client. Can you send those files to me?? I don't have IRC. Send to romanianusa@yahoo.com with directions.

Can't help with just this info, try running git pull in knots directory to fetch the latest changes and restart the server. Plugin error messages should now be logged and have more info in them.

Is it possible to stream live tv from a DVB-card via VLC to Knots2 in Windows? The card works in VLC. Any pointers / hints on how this should be done would be nice.

It should be possible, but there's no easy way to add all your channels. Basically you need to find the input url VLC uses for each channel. Not sure how this is exactly done in Windows, but it should be something like this:
Code:
dvb(-s/t/c)://frequency=num: program=num
go to Edit Media with a browser and copy paste that to 'New item' and alter the url a bit (add dvb-prefix and remove spaces):

Code:
dvb://dvb-frequency=num:program=num
Name the channel, put it to some category and save. Try to view it. If it works, repeat this for each of your channels.

I could someday try to make a script that does this automatically using Linux' dvb-utils or something. Let me know how it went.

Tried your advice and it works, actually quite well considering my hardware isn't exactly top of the line. However there is a slight problem. After closing the tv-stream, VLC does not stop and keeps using the cpu. Restarting Knots fixes this until watching another DVB-stream. The problem does not occur when watching any other videos, only the tv-stream.

Using 1.0.3 VLC which might of course be the problem, so maybe I'll try the unstable ones to see if it fixes the problem.

Even with this slight problem, I have to say I'm very impressed with Knots2. Very smooth playback and easy to use, thumbs up!

Hi Ukki -

Thank you for your help until the wee hours of the California morning last night. And than you for clueing me in to the fremantle release of knots2 v. diablo. I wasn't aware of the former.

Unfortunately, I have now tried to start the SSL procedure and have hit another roadblock. I don;t have time at the moment to IRC so am leaving this message here.

After doing the following in terminal on the server (Mac OX 10.6.2):

cd knots
./scripts/user add username password
./scripts/setup webrick_ssl 1
./knots.rb

and forwarding both the 1978 port and 19780 port,

I've lost the ability to connect via localhost in the browser and connect via the client (N900) with Knots2.

I did not edit the SSL settings (changing the 0 to 1) using the browser as I thought I would be able to do that after. What have I done wrong?

Hmm...

I have to say the windows server thing hardly seems to qualify for the word "easy". I have enough trouble just making VLC do what I tell it to do, the whole knot2@windows part seems all spare bolts and home made wrenches as far as I can tell...

The N900 client looks very interesting though.

I think this may be my fault, got another report about this so I think it's due to something I added recently. Will try to fix today.

You need to access the server with https://localhost:1978 after enabling SSL. I think it should print the address when you start the server. Client doesn't support SSL out of the box, I will try to add instructions to the wiki on how to enable this.

Well the streaming part is quite easy once you get it going, but
"Easy media streaming for most operating systems - excruciating setup" seemed like a too long topic for this thread.
