i think d culprit are d 2 small teeth under the usb connector. they cause friction while removing the charger or the cable.
easy solution: using the filer on a nailcutter, file these teeth for a few times so that they become a bit blunt. it makes unplugging much smoother n comfortable. hope this helps!

guy2die4 this has been discussed several times in the previous posts. Yes it reduces stress on the port however this is a hardware problem that needs to be addressed in future revisions.

Sympathies. How long have you been waiting for a fixed replacement so far?

After seeing all the power jack problems I examined the cables. Both the charger and the USB cables have two prongs that are very stiff and lock the cable into the jack. (I have seen other cables like this that have a button to retract them but not these.) So, I took a Dremel tool (rotary tool) and ground those down smooth with the surface. The cables still stay attached but now come out so much easier. I think this will help keep from putting so much tension on the jack when unplugging the cables. I have seen no adverse affect on the charging/data.

EDIT:

I believe I have the same port. The lugs you describe are soldered to the board. I think you're right when you said the few that have come of the board were probably a mistake made in the manufacturing process rather than engineering fault other wise I think we would all have just about returned ours by now.
The box labels changed color in week 49. I got a couple of N900's made in week 48, and before, and they had black labels. The ones I got from week 49 and after had a white label.

I think that doesnīt indicate anything special. I noticed that the black labels were much more smeared, or of worse print quality, than the white labels. That in itself, being able to more easily scan out units, would have been a reason for Nokia to change labels.

My wifeīs phone is from week 51. I canīt see much if any construction difference between mine from week 46 and hers. Her sliding mechachanism for opening the keyboard is stiffer, and her screen is closer to the lower part of the phone than on mine. I can actually see in between the two halfs on mine, but not on hers.

Of course I canīt tell if it is a individual variation between production units or the result of better quality production. To know that Iīd need to have opened up quite a lot of samples to check.

But fit of upper half to lower half is about the only difference Iīve spotted after a very careful study of the two.
