apt-get clean

This should free some space if you haven't done it already.
Ofcourse, apt-get clean! See working with debian on a normal sized drive makes you forget about those little things

Still, like others said, perhaps a download queue or a multi-select + download function on the ovi store could be useful.

As a sidenote, it seems freed space on the rootfs now shows up immediately in a df. It previously needed a reboot for me most of the times.

Propably it's the developers of these Apps that have chosen, for whatever reason, not to release them in every market.
I believe the reason may well be in Chinese legislation. I have heard some strange rumors about a new law in China that forbids importing games, or something to that effect (but I have not seen this in writing anywhere, so this information may be incorrect.) In any case, I am quite sure no developer would deliberately close out the Chinese market, and certainly Rovio would be more than happy to make Angry Birds available in every possible market.

I know it's "mafan" but you live in China mate, best get used to it
这么麻烦啊! NO I can't get used to it? are you in Beijing now?? how are we going to get all these good apps? there needs to be a method to either get them transferred offline to the devices or to get a VPN/proxy on the devices themselves and hide IP from China Unicom.

Well the law definitely isn't new but you're right to some extent.

China examines all the games coming into the market and they have to be approved by the government (sometimes this is retroactive to enable smaller games to start off before they're checked). Also there is a limit on how many foreign movies they allow here every year, which could be a problem if OVI wants to sell movies...

there are also sometimes problems about which department should issue the permit, the latest wow update had this problem for instance.

So in conclusion: Yes there are a lot of barriers and things to consider when bringing a game to China.

I hope the sound files are high quality and stereo. I'd hate it if my N900 would do mono farts only.

Haha, yeah I'm here for another two days and then I'm heading south for 放假 (Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore), coming back by chinese new year though.

I think it should be possible to run a web-proxy on it but I don't know since I don't actually have the device (I'm alas still a poor student who cannot afford one yet), but I'm looking into solutions because this firewall is going nowhere and when I do get the money I'm buying one right away(although that may run maemo 6 if I stay here and work)!

I dont think these are all optified?

i installed solitare, and lost 7mb rootfs. deleted and it came back.

i installed angle meter (also by "offscr.com") and lost abot 7mb. deleting brought it back.

i installed both at same time expecting 14mb to go, but it was still only 7mb????

i tried reboots between installs and uninstalls, but no difference.

Angry birds didnt make any difference to rootfs at all.

any ideas? i dont want to use anything that will use rootfs space if i can

Ross.
